''Taras Bulba, the Cossack'' (Italian: ''Taras Bulba, il cosacco'') is a 1962 Italian historical adventure film directed by Ferdinando Baldi and starring Vladimir Medar, Jean-François Poron and Fosco Giachetti. Ferdinando Baldi (19 May 1917 – 12 September 2007) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Biography Baldi was born in Cava de' Tirreni, Salerno, on 19 May 1917. His early film work began in Italy in the early 1950s with films such as ''Il Prezzo dell'Onore''. He directed Orson Welles in the films ''David and Goliath'' and '' The Tartars''. Mirko Ellis (4 September 1923 – 11 September 2014) was a Swiss-Italian film, stage and television actor. Born Mirko Korcinsky in Locarno to a family of Lithuanian origin, Ellis moved, after his studies, to Italy, where he made his film debut in 1946, in a critically acclaimed role in Aldo Vergano's neorealist drama ''The Sun Still Rises''. One year later, he debuted on stage in the theatrical company of Maria Melato. He later alternated important roles and character roles, in genre films and television productions. Ellis was married to fellow actress Esther Maring, with whom he lived in Alghero, Sardinia. On 11 September 2014, Ellis fell from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment and died.
