''Virgin Media News at 5.30'' is the flagship evening news programme on the Irish television network Virgin Media One (formerly known as "TV3"). It is produced by the Virgin Media News division. Presented by main news anchor Colette Fitzpatrick, the thirty-minute news programme covers Irish national and international news stories daily. History When TV3 launched on 20 September 1998, its early evening news programme was called ''TV3 News @ 6''. It provided a comprehensive view of the day's main international and national news stories, was presented by Alan Cantwell and Gráinne Seoige and was in direct competition with '' RTÉ News: Six One''. This period of direct rivalry with RTÉ only lasted for a year as TV3 decided to break up the hour-long programme. As a result of this, two new programmes - ''First Edition'' at 5:30 pm and ''TV3 News @ 7'' - were launched. Colette Fitzpatrick
Colette Fitzpatrick (born June 1974) is one of the main news anchors at Virgin Media News (formerly known as "TV3 News"), since September 2006. She is a native of Holycross, Thurles, County Tipperary.("Colette, 31, from Thurles, Co Tipperary") Fitzpatrick is a Virgin Media News anchor. She presents the weekday bulletins: ''News at 12.30'' and '' News at 5.30''. She has also hosted the prime time current affairs show ''Midweek''. Fitzpatrick began working in the TV3 newsroom in March 2001. She has edited and anchored bulletins for the morning news programme '' Ireland AM'' and also reported on a range issues for the main evening news. Brian Daly
Brian Daly is an Irish news journalist who previously worked for TV3 News. He spent also worked as Ireland Correspondent for Sky News in Dublin. Daly was one of the Sky News Ireland's two anchors for its twice-weeknightly programmes alongside colleague Ray Kennedy, following the departure of previous Sky News Ireland anchor Gráinne Seoige. Daly joined Sky News from Irish channel TV3, where he had worked since the channel's launch in 1998 and anchored the breakfast show Ireland AM. Sky News Ireland was a programming block on Sky News broadcast in Ireland. It was a separate feed from the UK and international versions of Sky News.
