Troyan
Troyan ( bg, Троян ) is a town remembering the name of Roman Emperor Trajan, in Lovech Province in central Bulgaria with population of 21,997 inhabitants, as of December 2009. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Troyan Municipality. The town is about away from the country capital Sofia. The river of Beli Osam passes through the heart of the town. The 2021 Census indicates that the population of the Trojan was 18,449 inhabitants. The ethnic distribution of the inhabitants (as of 2009) is ethnic Bulgarians (87.29%), with minorities being Roma (1.23%) and Turks (1.03%). The ethnicity for 10,21% of inhabitants is not known. Donka Mihaylova of Bulgarian Socialist Party has been the town's mayor since 2011. History Troyan was named a town in 1868, when it developed as a craft center for the region. Troyan Municipality ( bg, Община Троян) is a municipality ('' obshtina'') in Lovech Province, Central-North Bulgaria, located from the northern slopes of the central Stara planina mountain to the area of the Fore-Balkan. It is named after its administrative centre - the town of Troyan. The municipality embraces a territory of 888.85 km² with a population of 33,827 inhabitants, as of December 2009. The area is best known with the Troyan Monastery - the third biggest in Bulgaria, and the north approach to Beklemeto Pass, also known as Troyan Pass, which is one of the connections between the north and south parts of the country. Troyan Peak ( bg, връх Троян, vrah Troyan, ) is a peak rising to 810 m in the Friesland Ridge of the Tangra Mountains in Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It has a steep snow free west slope and surmounts the Ruen Icefall to the north, west and south. The peak is named after the Bulgarian town of Troyan. Troyan Pass
Beklemeto Pass ( bg, Беклемето ), also known as Troyan Pass ( ), is a mountain pass in the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina) in Bulgaria. It connects Troyan and Karnare on the Karlovo Plain. The pass is in north-central Bulgaria 20 km from the town of Troyan. The pass features a ski resort. The pass is on one of the main roads connecting northern and southern Bulgaria. Troyan Monastery
The Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God ( bg, Троянски манастир „Успение Богородично“) or, as it is more commonly called, the Troyan Monastery is the third largest monastery in Bulgaria. It is located in the northern part of the country in the Balkan mountains and was founded no later than the end of the 16th century. The monastery is situated on the banks of the Cherni Osam near Oreshak, a village 10 km from Troyan in Lovech Province, and is a popular tourist destination. The main church of the monastery was reconstructed near the end of Ottoman rule during the Bulgarian National Revival period by a master-builder called Konstantin in 1835. The ornate interior and exterior of the church were painted between 1847 and 1849 by Zahari Zograph, a popular Bulgarian painter of the time, who also painted the central church of the Rila Monastery, the largest monastery in Bulgaria.
