Triumph Sabrina Engine
The Triumph Sabrina engine is an internal combustion engine for automotive applications developed by the Triumph Motor Company division of the Standard Motor Company in England in the late 1950s. It powered Triumph's Le Mans team entries in 1959, 1960, and 1961, and was considered for use in a production road car. History In the late 1950s Triumph's Competitions department designed and built a new high-performance engine given the development name 20X. An investment of £49,000 was approved for its development, as 'Project 51', by the Standard-Triumph board at its meeting on 19 September 1960. Some sources call this the 'S' engine, after Triumph's TR3S and TRS Le Mans cars. The engine's two prominent front-facing domical camshaft end covers earned it the popular nickname "Sabrina", after contemporary British actress Norma Ann Sykes. Standard Motor Company
The Standard Motor Company Limited was a motor vehicle manufacturer, founded in Coventry, England, in 1903 by Reginald Walter Maudslay. For many years, it manufactured Ferguson TE20 tractors powered by its Vanguard engine. All Standard's tractor assets were sold to Massey Ferguson in 1959. Standard purchased Triumph Motor Company, Triumph in 1945 and in 1959 officially changed its name to Standard-Triumph International and began to put the Triumph brand name on all its products. A new subsidiary took the name The Standard Motor Company Limited and took over the manufacture of the group's products. The Standard name was last used in Britain in 1963, and in India in 1988. The 12 Hours of Sebring is an annual motorsport Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance race for Sports car racing, sports cars held at Sebring International Raceway, on the site of the former Hendricks Army Airfield World War II air base in Sebring, Florida, US. In the past, this race has been a round of the now defunct World Sportscar Championship, IMSA GT Championship and American Le Mans Series. In 2012, the race was the opening event of the FIA World Endurance Championship in a one off race before being returned to the American Le Mans Series for 2013. Starting in 2014, the event became the second round of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Virgilio Conrero (1 January 1918 – 6 January 1990) was an Italian automotive engineer, entrepreneur and racing team manager. He is known for tuning and racing cars from marques such as Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and Opel. History Conrero was born in Turin, Italy in 1918. After serving in the Regia Aeronautica as an aircraft mechanic in World War II, he established ''Autotecnica Conrero'' in 1951, and successfully tuned Alfa Romeo cars until 1969. During this time he also tuned Lancia Aurelia models. His workshops also built a small number of cars in the 1950s based on Alfa Romeo chassis, such as the Conrero Alfa Romeo that competed in the 20th Mille Miglia in 1953. Adriaan Robert "Sloot" Slotemaker (13 June 1929 – 16 September 1979) was a Dutch racing driver. He entered one Formula One World Championship race, the 1962 Dutch Grand Prix, with one of Carel Godin de Beaufort's Porsches, but his car was not ready in time for the event. His entry was taken by Wolfgang Seidel. Throughout the 1960s Slotemaker competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, and was a driver and advisor for the ''Le Mans'' film in 1970. Alfred Lazarus Fingleston (16 December 1920 – 13 May 2012), better known as Les Leston, or in full Leslie Leston, was a British racing driver, born in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire. Keith Norman R. Ballisat (20 May 1928 – 25 May 1996) was a British racing driver, who drove in endurance races, rallies and Non-Championship Formula One races. He has competed in events like Monte Carlo Rally, Coupe des Alpes, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Acropolis Rally. 1960 24 Hours Of Le Mans
The 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 28th 24 Hours of Le Mans Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on 25 and 26 June 1960, on Circuit de la Sarthe. It was the fifth and final round of the F.I.A. World Sports Car Championship as well as being the fifth round of the inaugural FIA GT Cup. It was held just a week after the tragic Belgian F1 GP in which two drivers were killed and Stirling Moss and another driver were seriously injured. The prospect of a duel between the Ferrari versus the Porsche championship-leaders was enough to draw large crowds to the 24 Hours race and some 200,000 spectators had gathered for Europe's classic sports car race, around the course.
