Tren Interoceánico (network)
The Interoceanic Train of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec () is a government-owned railway system in Mexico that has three lines. It seeks to become a global logistics network focused on the manufacture and movement of goods between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The project consists of the renovation of the railroad, which is expected to increase the speed of the freight train from to , more than three times the current one. Oaxaca
Oaxaca, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Oaxaca, is one of the 32 states that compose the political divisions of Mexico, Federative Entities of the Mexico, United Mexican States. It is divided into municipalities of Oaxaca, 570 municipalities, of which 418 (almost three quarters) are governed by the system of (customs and traditions) with recognized local forms of self-governance. The Ferrocarril del Istmo de Tehuantepec (''Ferrocarril del Istmo de Tehuantepec, S.A. de C.V.''; English: Railway of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec), also known as Tren Interoceánico (), Line Z (), Ferrocarril Transístmico () or simply Ferroistmo (), is part of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, owned by the Mexican government, that crosses the Isthmus of Tehuantepec between Puerto Mexico, Veracruz, and Salina Cruz, Oaxaca. The InterCity 125 (originally Inter-City 125) or High Speed Train (HST) is a diesel-powered High-speed rail, high-speed passenger train built by British Rail Engineering Limited between 1975 and 1982. Minatitlán, Veracruz
Minatitlán is a city in the List of states of Mexico, Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located in the southeastern part of the state, in the Olmeca Region, Olmeca region, to the north of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, along the Coatzacoalcos River. In 2010 the greater metropolitan area had a population of 356,020. Minatitlán is home to the ''Refinería Gral. Lázaro Cárdenas del Río'' (now named for President Lázaro Cárdenas) a 1906 oil refinery that was the first such facility built in Latin America. The refinery underwent an expansion that started in 2003 to bring the capacity of the plant up to 240,000 barrels per day, up from its previous capacity of 185,000 barrels per day. Port Chiapas
The Port Chiapas () or Puerto Madero is a port in Puerto de San Benito in the Tapachula municipality of the Soconusco region in the southern portion of the Mexican state of Chiapas. The port entrance lies about northwest of the mouth of the Suchiate River which is the international boundary between Mexico and Guatemala. Puerto de San Benito is connected by Highway 225 to Tapachula International Airport and the city of Tapachula. Since its opening in 1975 the port has been a small fishing and agricultural transport center. Rail Transport In Guatemala
Guatemala had a network of narrow gauge railroads. History Construction of the first railway in Guatemala commenced in 1878 and the first section began operation in 1880, connecting Puerto San José and Escuintla, being extended to Guatemala City in 1884. The line to Puerto Barrios, known originally as Northern Railroad of Guatemala was completed in 1908. The network was soon acquired by United Fruit, and in 1912 renamed the International Railways of Central America which was also known as IRCA. The railroad prospered until 1957.
