The Tiger Avon is a British kit car from Tiger Racing, a manufacturer formed in 1989 specialising in Lotus Seven type cars and racing cars. The Tiger Avon is Tiger's entry-level model, and can be fitted with different engines including the Ford Zetec, the Ford OHC and some motorcycle engines. The car consists of a steel spaceframe chassis with fully independent suspension and a fibreglass body. The Tiger Avon was formerly the Phoenix Automotive Avon Sprint. Tiger purchased this project, and modified the chassis and suspension to their requirements. The tiger (''Panthera tigris'') is a large Felidae, cat and a member of the genus ''Panthera'' native to Asia. It has a powerful, muscular body with a large head and paws, a long tail and orange fur with black, mostly vertical stripes. The Lotus Seven is a sports car produced by the British manufacturer Lotus Cars (initially called Lotus Engineering) between 1957 and 1973. Ford Motor Company used the Zetec name on a variety of inline four-cylinder automobile engines. It was coined to replace "Zeta" on a range of 1.6 L to 2.0 L multi-valve engines introduced in 1991 because Ford was threatened with legal action by Lancia who owned the Zeta trademark. The company used the name widely in European advertising and later introduced it to the North American market with the Contour.
