This Can't Exist is a compilation album by American post-hardcore band Native Nod, released by The Numero Group in 2023. The album contains every released recording by Native Nod, except the track "Mr. President" from the ''Fear of Smell'' compilation and their demo tape. Background Native Nod was formed in 1990 when Chris and Danny Leo met Justin Simon at a skatepark in Bloomfield. They became friends through their shared appreciation of music. Through Simon, they met Dave Lerner. Native Nod played many of their early shows at ABC No Rio, where they helped grow a scene that detested the often violent hardcore attitudes of CBGBs. The band gained popularity from house concerts around New York and New Jersey, despite not having released any music at the time. Alap Aman Momin (born 25 June 1974), professionally known as Alap Momin and Oktopus is an American musician, composer and producer. He is a former member of Dälek and MRC Riddims. Career Alap Aman Momin was born to Indian parents and grew up in New Jersey. From a young age, Momin developed an interest in music and took up playing guitar at the age of 12 and began to join local bands. Gradually his interest shifted to engineering and he started his first recording studio in 1993 in his parents' basement in Parsippany, New Jersey. Dälek In 1995, while at William Paterson University, Alap met Will Brooks and Joshua Booth. The three started collaborating as experimental hip hop group Dälek. New York hardcore (also known as NYHC) is both the hardcore punk music created in New York City and the subculture and lifestyle (sociology), lifestyle associated with that music. Chat Pile is an American rock band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band is composed of four members using the pseudonyms Raygun Busch (vocals), Luther Manhole (guitar), Stin (bass), and Cap'n Ron (drums). Signed to The Flenser, their debut album ''God's Country'' was released in 2022, followed by ''Cool World'' in 2024. The band self-identifies as belonging to the noise rock subgenre, but external publications have labeled them as sludge metal. Soulside
Soulside, also spelled Soul Side, is an American post-hardcore band from the greater Washington, D.C. area. History The original name of the band was Lunchmeat which was formed by high school students Bobby Sullivan, Chris Thomson, Scott McCloud and Alexis Fleisig in 1985. Lunchmeat played their last show under that name on August 29 of the same year as the group went on hiatus while the members went to college. The next summer the band reunited under the name Soulside recording an album at Inner Ear with Ian MacKaye, Don Zientara, and Eli Janney. The album was the second release on Sammich Records. At the end of the summer, the band again went on hiatus as the members returned to college except for Thomson who had decided not return to college and formed Ignition with Chris Bald.
