Harry Carey (actor Born 1878)
Henry DeWitt Carey II (January 16, 1878 – September 21, 1947) was an American actor and one of silent film's earliest superstars, usually cast as a Western (genre), Western hero. One of his best-known performances is as the Vice President of the United States, president of the United States Senate in the drama film ''Mr. Smith Goes to Washington'' (1939), for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was the father of Harry Carey Jr., who was also a prominent actor. Early life Carey was born in the Bronx, New York, a son of Henry DeWitt Carey (a newspaper source gives the actor's name as "Harry DeWitt Carey II"), a prominent lawyer and judge of the New York Supreme Court, and his wife Ella J. (Ludlum). He grew up on City Island, Bronx. Carey was a cowboy, railway superintendent, author, lawyer, and playwright. He attended Hamilton Military Academy, then studied law at New York University. Gertrude Bambrick
Gertrude Bambrick (August 24, 1897 – January 10, 1974) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in 60 films between 1912 and 1916. Biography Bambrick was married twice. Her first marriage to early film director Marshall Neilan ended in divorce and resulted in one child, Marshall Neilan Jr, who later became a successful film editor. Neilan fell in love with Bambrick while working in New York City in 1914, and at the time he was a rising star in film direction. At one point during their marriage he was earning $15,000 per week. He was involved in several affairs during their marriage. Bambrick retired from acting in 1916 after marrying Neilan, before her career could ever really take off. Bambrick divorced Neilan in 1921 after discovering he was involved in an affair with early film actress Blanche Sweet. Claire McDowell
Claire McDowell ( MacDowell; November 2, 1877 – October 23, 1966) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in 350 films between 1908 and 1945. Early years Claire MacDowell was born in New York City on November 2, 1877, the daughter of Eugene A. MacDowell and Fanny Reeves. Her aunt, actress Fanny Davenport, gave her early training in acting. Fanny Davenport's second husband was Eugene's brother Melbourne MacDowell. Career When she was 17, she was an understudy in a theatrical company headed by Charles Frohman. Still something of a youthful beauty, McDowell appeared in numerous short, early feature films. She graduated to playing character and mother types. She appeared in Douglas Fairbanks' '' The Mark of Zorro'' (1920).
