''The King and the Queen'' () is a South Korean television series starring Im Dong-jin and Chae Shi-ra, along with Han Hye-sook, Lee Jin-woo and Ahn Jae-mo. It aired on KBS1 from June 6, 1998, to March 26, 2000, on Saturdays and Sundays at 21:45 ( KST) for 186 episodes. The series begins with the death of King Munjong and ends with the Jungjong coup. Queen Jeonghyeon
Queen Jeonghyeon (; 30 July 1462 – 29 September 1530), of the Papyeong Yun clan, was a posthumous name bestowed to the wife and third queen consort of Yi Hyeol, King Seongjong and the mother of Yi Yeok, King Jungjong. Deposed Queen Yun of the Haman Yun clan (15 July 1455 – 29 August 1482) was the second wife of Yi Hyeol, King Seongjong and the mother of Yi Yung, Prince Yeonsan. She was Queen of Joseon from 1476 until her deposition in 1479. She was an 11th generation descendant of General Yun Kwan. Originally a concubine of the King, she was elevated to queen rank after Han Song-yi's death. Queen Jeongsun (; 1440 – 7 July 1521), of the Yeosan Song clan, was a posthumous name bestowed to the wife and queen consort of Yi Hong-wi, King Danjong, the 6th Joseon monarch. Jungjong (; 25 April 1488 – 9 December 1544), personal name Yi Yeok (), firstly titled Grand Prince Jinseong (), was the 11th monarch of the Joseon dynasty of Korea. Yejong (; 23 January 1450 – 9 January 1470), personal name Yi Hwang (), firstly titled Grand Prince Haeyang (), was the eighth monarch of the Joseon dynasty of Korea. His older brother was Crown Prince Uigyeong. He succeeded his father, King Sejo, in 1468, when he was 19 years old, but was too physically ill to govern, and died a year later. One of the most prominent incidents during his reign was the trial and death of General Nam Yi, who was famous for having suppressed Yi Si-ae's Rebellion along with General Gang Sun. At the age of 28, Nam Yi was appointed as Minister of Military Affairs. Danjong (; 18 August 1441 – 17 November 1457), personal name Yi Hong-wi (), was the sixth monarch of the Joseon dynasty of Korea. He succeeded his father King Munjong in 1452, but was forced to abdicate by his uncle, Grand Prince Suyang (future King Sejo) in 1455.
