''The Fields'' is a 2011 American suspense thriller directed by Tom Mattera and Dave Mazzoni. The film is touted as being a "semi-autobiographical account" of what happened to Harrison Smith, the film's writer, as a boy growing up on a grandparents' farm on the outskirts of Easton, Pennsylvania. The film stars Cloris Leachman Cloris Leachman (April 30, 1926 – January 27, 2021) was an American actress and comedian whose career spanned nearly eight decades. ''The Fields'' is a 1946 novel by Conrad Richter and the second work in his trilogy '' The Awakening Land''. It continues the story of the characters Portius and Sayward Luckett Wheeler begun in the novel '' The Trees''. Plot ''The Fields'' is set on the frontier in a fictional county near what is now Ross County, Ohio. Its action begins almost immediately after the conclusion of ''The Trees,'' a few weeks after the marriage of protagonist Sayward Luckett and her husband, lawyer Portius Wheeler. The action of the novel spans a much longer period of time than its predecessor, covering approximately 20 years of their marriage as the couple become parents to a very large family. Kevin Maher (born 1972) is an Irish writer. He is primarily known as a journalist and chief film critic at ''The Times''. His work has appeared in ''The Guardian'', ''The Independent'', and ''The Observer''. His debut novel, ''The Fields'', was published by Reagan Arthur Books in 2013. It was listed in the 2013 Waterstones 11, a literary book prize aimed at promoting debut authors. Early life Maher was born in West Dublin, Ireland in 1972. His family was lower middle class catholics. His grandfather was a fighter in the Irish War of Independence in Tipperary. He graduated from the University College Dublin in 1994 with an MA degree in film. During his graduation, he wrote for university magazines. Career After graduating, Maher moved to London in 1994 to focus on journalism. Before starting his career as a film critic, he worked as a waiter for several years. ''Texas Killing Fields'' (also known as ''The Fields'') is a 2011 American crime film directed by Ami Canaan Mann and starring Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jessica Chastain and Chloë Grace Moretz. It competed in the 68th Venice International Film Festival. Several killings occur along Houston's I-45 corridor between Houston and Galveston, in and around an area known as " the Killing Fields".
