The DCI
The Wizards Play Network (WPN) is the official sanctioning body for competitive play in '' Magic: The Gathering'' (''Magic'') and various other games produced by Wizards of the Coast and its subsidiaries, such as Avalon Hill. Originally, it was known as the DCI (formerly Duelists' Convocation International) but was rebranded in 2008. The WPN provided game rules, tournament operating procedures, and other materials to private tournament organizers and players. It also operated a judge certification program to provide consistent rules enforcement and promote fair play. The DCI's name was still commonly used, however, to refer to the player registration number ("DCI number") until 2020. ''Risk'' is a Strategy game, strategy board game of diplomacy, Wargaming, conflict and conquest for two to six players. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the world, divided into 42 Territory, territories, which are grouped into six continents. Turn (game), Turns rotate among players who control Army, armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture territories from other players, with results determined by dice game, dice rolls. Players may form and dissolve Political alliance, alliances during the course of the game. Hecatomb (card Game)
''Hecatomb'' is an out-of-print collectible card game created by Wizards of the Coast. The base set of 144 cards was released on August 18, 2005 at the annual Gen Con Indy. The game is unique in its use of five-sided, stackable cards made of durable plastic as opposed to conventional paperboard. The original concept for the game is credited to Paul Barclay, Brandon Bozzi, Mike Elliott, Aaron Forsythe, and Robert Gutschera. Gen Con
Gen Con is the largest tabletop game convention in North America by both attendance and number of events. It features traditional pen-and-paper, board, and card games, including role-playing games, miniatures wargames, live action role-playing games, collectible card games, and strategy games. Gen Con also features computer games. Attendees engage in a variety of tournament and interactive game sessions. In 2019, Gen Con had nearly 70,000 unique attendees. Origins Game Fair
Origins Game Fair is an annual gaming convention that was first held in 1975. Since 1996, it has been held in Columbus, Ohio at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Origins is run by the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA). Origins was chartered to serve gaming in general, including wargaming and miniatures gaming. Origins is the site of the annual Origins Awards ceremony. For many years, the Charles S. Roberts Awards for historical boardgames were presented at Origins, but these are now presented at the World Boardgaming Championships. Bye (sports)
In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments, byes may be assigned either to reward the highest ranked participant(s), or randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). In round-robin tournaments, usually one competitor gets a bye in each round when there are an odd number of competitors, as it is impossible for all competitors to play in the same round. However, over the whole tournament, each plays the same number of games as well as sitting out for the same number of rounds. List Of Friday Night Magic Cards
This is a list of promotional '' Magic: The Gathering'' cards given out at Friday Night Magic tournaments since 2000. They are commonly referred to as FNM cards. Before 2015, cards were awarded to the winner, the most sporting player (replaced by the finalist in 2005), and two other players chosen at random. Since 2015, distribution is left to the event organizer's discretion, although the Wizards Play Network provides guidelines to ensure every player has a chance to obtain the promotional card. From October 2017 to April 2018, promo cards were replaced with promo "Double Sided Tokens". However, after feedback to the change, Wizards of the Coast returned to promo cards.
