The Big Breakfast (TV Series)
''The Big Breakfast'' is a Canadian television morning news and entertainment program. It aired on the A-Channel stations and CKX from 1997 to 2005. It has no relation to the UK show of the same name. Each A-Channel station produced and broadcast its own ''Big Breakfast''. CKX aired CHMI's Winnipeg edition. The anchors were Jon Ljungberg and Jimmy Mac in Winnipeg ( CHMI), Mark Scholz, Steve Antle and Bridget Ryan in Edmonton ( CKEM) and Dave Kelly and Tara McCool in Calgary ( CKAL). On December 1, 2004, CHUM Limited officially took over ownership of the A-Channel system, and the stations were re-launched as Citytv on August 2, 2005. ''The Big Breakfast'' was also relaunched as ''Breakfast Television'', the name Citytv uses for its similar morning shows, on the same day the stations were rebranded. Citytv is a Canadian television network owned by the Rogers Sports & Media subsidiary of Rogers Communications. The licence of the original Citytv station, granted the callsign of CITY-TV by the CRTC on November 25, 1971 to Cable Television Association executive and former print journalist Phyllis Switzer, who moved with her family from western Canada (Alberta) to Toronto in 1967. A-Channel Original Programming
A-Channel (proposed as The Alberta Channel) was a Canadian television system initially owned by Craig Media from September 1997 to 2004, then by CHUM Limited from 2004 to 2005 through A-Channel, Inc. It consisted of Craig's television stations in Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton, and was the company's unsuccessful attempt to build a national network. CHUM Limited, which acquired Craig Media's television broadcasting assets in 2004 (resulting in Craig's re-incorporation to Craig Wireless), merged these stations into CHUM's flagship television network Citytv on August 2, 2005. On the same date, the A-Channel name was transferred to the NewNet stations in Southern Ontario and Vancouver Island, which are currently operated by Bell Media under the CTV 2 banner. ''A Morning'' (formerly ''New Day'', ''Breakfast at The New RO'' in the case of Ottawa, and ''A-Channel Morning'') is a morning television show that formerly aired on Canada's CHRO-TV in Ottawa and the other stations in the A system (except for A Atlantic). CTV 2 is a Canadian English-language television system owned by the Bell Media subsidiary of BCE Inc. The system consists of four terrestrial owned-and-operated television stations (O&Os) in Ontario, one in British Columbia and two regional cable television channels, one in Atlantic Canada and the other in Alberta (the latter formerly being the provincial educational channel in that province under the name Access Alberta).
