Takeover Of Vanha
The takeover of Vanha () was an uprising by a number of students on November 25, 1968, at the Old Student House, Helsinki, Old Student House () of the University of Helsinki in Finland. It occurred on the night of the 100th birthday of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, university's student union. The rioters took over Vanha during the celebrations, demanding changes to the university's administration and the curriculum. The group entered by breaking in through a Door#Design and styles, French window at 17:13 UTC+02:00, local time. The event immediately made nationwide headlines. The action was seen as inspired by the May 68, May 1968 unrest in France, as well as other political movements around Europe during the same year, including the Prague Spring. Nils Torvalds
Nils Ole Hilmer Torvalds (born 7 August 1945) is a Finnish politician who had been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2012 to 2024. He is a member of the Swedish People's Party of Finland, part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Swedo-Finnish Torvalds is the son of the poet Ole Torvalds, and the father of the software engineer Linus Torvalds of Linux kernel fame. Erkki Sakari Tuomioja (born 1 July 1946) is a Finnish politician and has previously been a member of the Finnish Parliament. From 2000 to 2007 and 2011 to 2015, he served as the minister for foreign affairs. He was president of the Nordic Council in 2008. Matti Salo (born 1980), professionally known as Asa and previously as Avain, is a Finnish rapper, record producer and singer. He is also a member of hip hop and reggae group Jätkäjätkät. Career beginnings In the early 2000s, Salo was signed to Warner Music Finland. Under his initial stage name Avain, he released his debut album ''Punainen tiili'' (''The Red Brick'') in 2001. Pentti Saarikoski (Pitkyarantsky District, Impilahti, now in the Republic of Karelia September 2, 1937 – Joensuu August 24, 1983) was a Finnish poet. He is considered one of the most important poets in the literary scene of Finland during the 1960s and 1970s. His body of work comprises poetry and translations, among them such classics as Homer's ''Odyssey'' and James Joyce's ''Ulysses (novel), Ulysses''. According to Saarikoski, he was the only person in the world who had ever translated both Homer's and Joyce's Ulysses – a statement that probably holds true even today. Moreover, it only took two years for him to translate Homer's ''Odyssey'' from Victor Bérard's edition, which is thought to be a rather fast accomplishment. Jaakko Tapani Laakso (born 20 May 1948 in Turku) is a Finnish leftwing politician and member of Parliament between 1991 and 2011, representing Left Alliance. He is a former member of the Communist Party of Finland. Laakso graduated from University of Helsinki in 1973 and has worked for the communist newspaper Tiedonantaja.
