TV-am
TV-am was a TV company that broadcast the ITV franchise for breakfast television in the United Kingdom from 1 February 1983 until 31 December 1992. The station was the UK's first national operator of a commercial breakfast television franchise. Its daily broadcasts were between 6:00 am and 9:25 am. Throughout its nine years and 10 months of broadcast, the station regularly had problems, resulting in numerous management changes, especially in its early years. It also suffered from major financial cutbacks hampering its operations. Though on a stable footing by 1986 and winning its ratings battle with the BBC's '' Breakfast Time'', within a year turmoil had ensued when industrial action hit the company. Despite these setbacks, by the 1990s, TV-am's flagship programme '' Good Morning Britain'' had become the most popular breakfast show on UK television. Roland Rat
Roland Rat is a British television puppet character. He was created, operated and voiced by David Claridge, who had previously designed and operated Mooncat, a puppet in the Children's ITV television programme ''Get Up and Go!''. Character summary Roland lives beneath London King's Cross railway station, King's Cross railway station in The Ratcave and also in Ratcavetwo under the Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles. He has an infant brother called Little Reggie and had a relationship with a guinea pig called Glenis. His colleagues include dour Welsh technical whizz Errol the Hamster and over-enthusiastic self-appointed "number one ratfan" Kevin the Gerbil, who is from Leeds and loves pink buckets. Breakfast Television Centre
Breakfast Television Centre is the former headquarters of TV-am in Camden Town, London, which is now the European headquarters of Paramount. It was converted from a former car showroom in 1981 to a design by Sir Terry Farrell, and came to be known as Eggcup House because of plastic eggcups on the roof. It has since been extensively renovated. As a Paramount subsidiary, UK broadcaster Channel 5 has its headquarters in the building. History In March 1981, a former car showroom was renovated for the TV-am studios. Sir Terry Farrell won the commission; his design became known for its vibrant postmodernism. There were 'TVAM' letters coming out of the wall, a sunrise archway over the entrance into the forecourt, and a number of plastic egg-cups on the edge of the roof facing the Regent's Canal, which led to the nickname 'Eggcup House'. Good Morning Britain (1983 TV Programme)
''Good Morning Britain'' was TV-am's main breakfast television show, broadcast on weekdays from February 1983 until the franchise ended in 1992. It had many different presenters throughout its run. After a difficult first few months, which almost led to the failure of the broadcasting franchise, ''Good Morning Britain'' became a success. The studio buildings in Hawley Crescent would later be acquired by what is now Paramount Global, and ultimately used as Paramount International Networks' offices. GMTV (an initialism for Good Morning Television), now legally known as ''ITV Breakfast, ITV Breakfast Broadcasting Limited'', was the name of the national ITV (TV network), ITV breakfast television contractor/licensee, broadcasting in the United Kingdom from 1 January 1993 to 3 September 2010. Daybreak (1983 TV Series)
''Daybreak'' was a short-lived early morning news programme, on the former United Kingdom breakfast station TV-am. It originally ran from 06:00 to 07:00 with an emphasis on news stories. The first edition was broadcast on the TV-am launch date of 1 February 1983. ''Daybreak'' was presented by Robert Kee and Angela Rippon who both took turns in presenting. As TV-am's viewing figures fell rapidly after its launch, and major shake ups took place, ''Daybreak'' was cut back to 30 minutes from 28 February 1983. Robert Kee and Angela Rippon were both replaced, with Gavin Scot (Weekdays) and Lynda Barry (weekends). Daybreak was then cut to only 15 minutes, as well as moving to a green screen studio. Anna Ford
Anna Ford (born 2 October 1943) is an English retired journalist, television presenter and newsreader. She first worked as a researcher, news reporter and later newsreader for Granada Television, ITN, and the BBC. Ford helped launch the British breakfast television broadcaster TV-am. She retired from broadcast news presenting in April 2006 and was a non-executive director of Sainsbury's until the end of 2012. Ford now lives in her home town of Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. David Frost
Sir David Paradine Frost (7 April 1939 – 31 August 2013) was an English television host, journalist, comedian and writer. He rose to prominence during the satire boom in the United Kingdom when he was chosen to host the satirical programme '' That Was the Week That Was'' in 1962. His success on this show led to work as a host on American television. He became known for his television interviews with senior political figures, among them the Nixon interviews with US president Richard Nixon in 1977 which were adapted into a stage play and film. Angela Rippon
Angela May Rippon (born 12 October 1944) is an English broadcaster, former newsreader, writer and journalist. Rippon presented radio and television news programmes in South West England before moving to BBC One's ''BBC Nine O'Clock News, Nine O'Clock News'', becoming a regular presenter in 1975.
