The Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Ujjain (Ujjain of the Syro-Malabars) is a Syro-Malabar eparchy (Eastern Catholic) in India, part of the rite-specific the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church (Syro-Oriental Rite). It thus depends on the Roman Congregation for the Oriental Churches, but is simultaneously a suffragan see in the ecclesiastical province of the Latin Metropolitan Archdiocese of Bhopal. Its cathedral episcopal see is St. Mary's Cathedral, in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh state in central India. Missionary Society Of St Thomas
The Missionary Society of St Thomas (the Apostle), abbreviated M.S.T. is an Eastern Catholic missionary organization founded in 1968 in Kerala by the Syro Malabar Catholic Church, for missionary work in "less Christian areas" in and outside India. It was founded by Bishop Sebastian Vayalil as a society of apostolic life for men. Structure and statistics The society is organised in three officially declared regions in southern and central India: Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Mandya in Karnataka and Sangli in Maharashtra; M.S.T. in the United States is an extension of the M.S.T. in Kerala. Its headquarters are Deepti Bhavan, Melampara P.O., Bharananganam, Kerala 686 594, India. John Perumattam
John Perumattam (3 November 1921 – 18 June 2011) was an Indian Prelate of Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. John Perumattam was born in Kakkoor, India, ordained a priest on 11 March 1951. Perumattam was appointed Exarch to the Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Ujjain on 29 July 1968 and would be ordained bishop 15 May 1977. Perumattam would retire as bishop of the Diocese of Ujjain on 4 April 1998. Perumattam was one of founding members of the Missionary Society of Saint Thomas and first director general of the society. Perumattam died in a hospital in Ujjain. He was 89.
