Syndicalist League Of North America
The Syndicalist League of North America was an organization led by William Z. Foster that aimed to " bore from within" the American Federation of Labor to win that trade union center over to the ideals of Revolutionary syndicalism. Organizational history Background The origins of the group go back to Foster's observations of European syndicalism in 1910-1911. Intrigued initially by the French CGT, he arrived in Paris in 1910. He spent the next year and a half studying the French syndicalist union, attending its 1910 Toulouse congress and actively participating in a CGT railroad strike. He also studied the labor and socialist movements in Germany and tried (without success) to represent the Industrial Workers of the World at the August 1911 Budapest congress of the International Secretariat of National Trade Union Centres. ''Labor History'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal which publishes articles regarding the history of the labor movement in the United States, Europe, and other regions and countries. Publication history The journal was established in 1953 as the ''Labor Historian's Bulletin'' (), and later incorporated ''Newsletter'' (). In 1960, the journal changed its name to ''Labor History'' and was being published by the Tamiment Institute, later to be published by CarFax, a subsidiary of Taylor & Francis. In 2003 the journal was sold to Taylor and Francis. Jay Fox (August 20, 1870 – March 8, 1961) was an American journalist, trade unionist, and political activist. The political trajectory of his life ran through anarchism, syndicalism, and communism, and he played a significant role in each of these political movements. Fox is best remembered as a leading figure in a radical collective located in Home, Washington, near Tacoma, where he was editor of one of the leading English-language anarchist newspapers of the day, ''The Agitator.'' Home is a census-designated place in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The 2010 Census placed the population at 1,377. The community lies on the Key Peninsula and borders the waters of Carr Inlet, an extension of Puget Sound.
