The Suriname Cricket Board (Dutch: ''Surinaamse Cricket Bond''; SCB) is the official governing body of the sport of cricket in Suriname. Its headquarters are located in Paramaribo, Suriname. The SCB is Suriname's representative at the International Cricket Council, and has been an associate member of that body since 2002. It is included in the ICC Americas development region. Suriname National Cricket Team
The Suriname national cricket team is the team that represents Suriname in international cricket. The team is organised by the Suriname Cricket Board, which has been an List of International Cricket Council members, associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 2011 (and previous an affiliate member from 2002). Suriname made its international debut at the 2004 Americas Affiliates Championship in Panama, where it placed last. At the 2006 ICC Americas Championship, the team won the division three event, and was promoted to division two for the 2008 ICC Americas Championship, 2008 edition. Suriname also won that event, and were promoted to the 2008 ICC Americas Championship Division One, 2008 Division One tournament in the United States, but were immediately relegated after going winless. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Nickerie District
Nickerie is a district of Suriname, on the north-west coast. Nickerie's capital city is Nieuw-Nickerie. Another town is Wageningen. The district borders the Atlantic Ocean to the north, the Surinamese district of Coronie to the east, the Surinamese district of Sipaliwini to the south and the region of East Berbice-Corentyne in Guyana to the west. Commewijne is a district of Suriname, located on the right bank of the Suriname River. Commewijne's capital city is Nieuw Amsterdam. Tamanredjo is another major town, while Meerzorg is the most populated. The district has a population of 31,420 and an area of 2,353 km2. One of the most populated of Suriname's districts, Commewijne relies primarily on agriculture for its income, with plantations dating back to the first Dutch colonisation of the area in the 17th century. Paramaribo District
Paramaribo is a district of Suriname, encompassing the capital city of Paramaribo and the surrounding area. Paramaribo district has a population of 240,924, almost half the population of the entire country, and an area of 182 km2.
