George William Sulman
George William Sulman (July 4, 1866 – August 10, 1938) was an Ontario merchant and political figure. He represented Kent West in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1908 to 1919 as a Conservative member. He was born in Burford, Kent County, Canada West, the son of William Sulman who came to Canada from England. He was educated in Burford and in Brantford. Sulman worked for various companies before establishing a wallpaper, stationery and book store in Chatham. He also owned the Great Western Silverware Company. In 1889, he married Mary Agnes Meekison. Sulman was mayor of Chatham in 1901 and 1902. He also served as a master for the local Masonic lodge. Florence Sulman
Florence Sulman (13 January 1876–15 June 1965) was an English-Australian author and educationalist. Life and work Sulman was born in Bromley, England on 13 January 1876. She was the eldest daughter of John Sulman and Sarah Clarke. She attended Miss Wheeler's school in Bromley before moving to Australia with her sister in 1886 to join her parents and brother who were living in New South Wales. Her mother died in 1888. She was educated at Abbotsleigh school in Parramatta. She became involved with the Society of Arts and Crafts in 1910 before moving back to England with her brother Geoffrey in 1916 and began teaching craft to recovering soldiers. Her brother died in an aircraft accident in 1917 and she moved back to Sydney. She became involved with the Society of Arts and Crafts again and was the president from 1928 until 1936. John Sulman
Sir John Sulman (29 August 1849 – 18 August 1934) was an Australian architect. Born in Greenwich, England, he emigrated to Sydney in 1885. From 1921 to 1924 he was chairman of the Federal Capital Advisory Committee and influenced the development of Canberra. Early life Born in Greenwich, England, Sulman was educated at the Greenwich Proprietary School and in 1863 passed the Oxford junior examination. After his family moved to Croydon next year, he was articled to Thomas Allom, a London architect. He learned the use of oils and watercolour, and executed perspective drawings for Sir George Gilbert Scott. Following illness, Sulman resumed work in London in 1868. While articled to H. R. Newton, he attended classes at the Architectural Association and at the Royal Academy of Arts, winning the Pugin travelling scholarship in 1871. Khalifah Ibn Sulman Al Khalifah
Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa ( ar, خليفة بن سلمان آل خليفة) (24 November 1935 – 11 November 2020) was a Bahraini royal and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Bahrain from 10 January 1970 until his death in 2020. He took office over a year before Bahrain's independence on 15 August 1971. He was the longest-serving prime minister in the world. Under the 2002 Constitution he lost some of his powers, with the King now having the authority to appoint and (along with the Bahraini parliament) dismiss ministers. Sir John Sulman Medal
The Sir John Sulman Medal is an architectural prize presented by the New South Wales chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects since 1932. The medal is sometimes referred to as the Sulman Award and now recognises excellence in public and commercial buildings in either New South Wales or in the Australian Capital Territory. Before the advent of the Wilkinson Award it was on occasions presented to domestic projects. The medal is presented in memory of the Australian architect Sir John Sulman (29 August 1849 – 18 August 1934). Sulman was born in Greenwich, England, and emigrated to Sydney in 1885.
