Suleyman Demirel University ( kk, Сулейман Демирел атындағы Университет, translit=Súleıman Demırel atyndaǵy Ýnıversıtet, russian: Университет имени Сулеймана Демиреля, abbreviated as SDU) is a private university in Kaskelen, Almaty, Kazakhstan. It is named after Süleyman Demirel, the former prime minister and president of Turkey. The university was established in 1996, by the initiatives of the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the former president of Turkey, Suleyman Demirel. Types of programs offered SDU offers full-time degree programs. Undergraduate degrees are taught at four faculties, which are divided into specific professions. The university building and campus are being expanded, which means other areas are expected to be added. Master’s degrees can be obtained at SDU in fourteen areas and are instructed in English. Almaty
Almaty (; kk, Алматы; ), formerly known as Alma-Ata ( kk, Алма-Ата), is the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of about 2 million. It was the capital of Kazakhstan from 1929 to 1936 as an autonomous republic as part of the Soviet Union, then from 1936 to 1991 as a union republic and finally from 1991 as an independent state to 1997 when the government relocated the capital to Akmola (renamed Astana in 1998, Nur-Sultan in 2019, and back to Astana in 2022).
