''Such a Little Queen'' is a 1914 American silent film starring Mary Pickford. It is based on a 1909 play by Channing Pollock which starred Elsie Ferguson. This film would later be remade in 1921 with Constance Binney in the lead. Cinematographer Ernest Haller was in charge of photography on both films. The 1914 film is now considered a lost film. One major contributing factor is the common use of nitrate film until the early 1950s. This type of film is highly flammable, and there have been several devastating fires, such as the Universal Pictures fire in 1924, the 1937 Fox vault fire and the 1965 MGM vault fire. Black-and-white film prints judged to be otherwise worthless were sometimes incinerated to salvage the meager scrap value of the silver image particles in their emulsions. Films have disappeared when production companies went bankrupt. Occasionally, a studio would remake a film and destroy the earlier version. Arthur Hoops (1870 – September 17, 1916) was an American stage and screen actor. Biography Born in Chicago in 1870, on the stage Hoops was primarily associated with actor James K. Hackett. From 1900 on Hoops supported or costarred with Hackett in three Ruritanian themed plays ''Rupert of Hentzau'', ''The Pride of Jennico'' and most famously ''The Prisoner of Zenda''. Hoops also appeared in ''Alice of Old Vincennes'' in 1901 with Virginia Harned. Both he and Hackett were well over 6'4" and made worthy adversaries in the famous duelling scene from ''Zenda''. It was the most famous duelling scene in the American theatre at the turn of the 20th century. Hoops moved on to silent film in 1914. Russell Bassett
Russell Bassett (October 24, 1845 – May 8, 1918) was an American stage and film actor. He appeared in 76 silent films between 1911 and 1918. Bassett was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but he moved to Oakland, California at age 3 when his father became a miner. He attended the now-defunct Brayton College in Oakland, and that was where he gained his initial acting experience. Bassett gained early acting experience in stock theater with the Hooley Stock Company in Chicago. Later, he "toured the whole width of America, broadening, mellowing, polishing off his art." On Broadway, he appeared in ''The Other Fellow'' (1910), ''The Top o' th' World'' (1907), and ''Rip Van Winkle'' (1905). During his film career, Bassett acted for the Biograph, Edison, Yankee, Pathe, Imp, Reliance, Nestor, and Famous Players companies.
