Steven Smith (Australian Rules Footballer)
Steven Smith (born 22 May 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Making his debut during the 1974 VFL season, Smith appeared 203 times for Melbourne and kicked 144 goals until his retirement at the end of the 1985 VFL season. In 1981, Smith won the Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Medal, which is awarded to Melbourne's best and fairest player for the season. Smith was the first Little League player to play in the VFL and is only one of four footballers to have played 200 VFL/AFL games but not play a final (the other three being Trevor Barker, Gary Hardeman and Geoff Cunningham). In 2015, Smith was elected President of the Melbourne Cricket Club. Ormond Amateur Football Club
Ormond Amateur Football Club is an Australian rules football club, located 14 km south east of Melbourne in the suburb of Ormond. Ormond is the second-oldest suburban club in the Victorian Amateur Football Association. The club was founded in 1931 by Leslie Edward Smith. In 2008 Ormond welcomed back recently retired AFL player Matthew Robbins as player and assistant coach. After competing in B grade in season 2009, Ormond were narrowly relegated and subsequently moved down to C grade for 2010. In 2008 the Club won the C Grade premiership, defeating Hampton Rovers 15.12 (102 points) to 9.10 (64 points). History The club was founded in the early years of the Great Depression. The 1976 VFL season was the 80th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 3 April until 25 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The premiership was won by the Hawthorn Football Club for the third time, after it defeated by 30 points in the 1976 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1976, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man.
