St. George's Episcopal Church (Hempstead)
St. George's Episcopal Church is an historic Episcopal church located at 319 Front Street ( NY 102) in Hempstead, New York. It was constructed in 1822 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 as St. George's Church. The Rectory of St. George's Episcopal Church is an historic rectory located at 217 Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead. It was listed on the National Register, in 1988. History Founded in 1702, the church was re-erected in 1734 to replace the original. However, its current edifice was built in 1822 following the second church's destruction. In 1735, it received a charter from King George II. During the American Revolution, Hempstead was a hotbed of British sympathizers or Tories, as they were known. The British attempted to occupy Hempstead after the Battle of Long Island and used St. George's as a headquarters as well as a place to worship. New York State Route 102
New York State Route 102 (NY 102) is an east–west state highway in Nassau County, New York, in the United States. It is little more than an alternate route of NY 24 through the town of Hempstead. NY 102 leaves NY 24 in West Hempstead and follows Front Street through the village of Hempstead and Uniondale before rejoining NY 24 in East Meadow. The portion of NY 102 west of William Street is maintained by Nassau County and is unsigned while the remainder of the highway is maintained by the New York State Department of Transportation and signed. NY 102 goes under the Meadowbrook State Parkway, but has no connecting ramps to or from the parkway. It does, however have a right-of-way for a formerly proposed eastbound lane. Hyde Park is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States, bordering the Hudson River north of Poughkeepsie. Within the town are the hamlets of Hyde Park, East Park, Staatsburg, and Haviland. Rockaway, Queens
The Rockaway Peninsula, commonly referred to as The Rockaways or Rockaway, is a peninsula at the southern edge of the New York City borough of Queens on Long Island, New York. Relatively isolated from Manhattan and other more urban parts of the city, Rockaway became a popular summer retreat in the 1830s.
