Jim Newman (television Producer)
Jim Newman (born 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a film and television producer, contemporary art curator, gallerist and musician. Musical career and festival management Discovering bebop as a teenager and trained as a saxophonist, Newman attended Stanford University and Oberlin College, where he received his bachelor's degree in music in 1955. While at Oberlin he started a jazz club and was also a founding member, with Walter Hopps and Craig Kauffman, of Concerthall Workshop. ''Space Is Still the Place'' is the second full-length album by The Bright Light Social Hour. It was released on March 10, 2015 via Frenchkiss Records (worldwide) and MapleMusic Recordings (Canada). Concept The band has stated the album was largely inspired by staying with fans while touring in the Southern United States, as well as by concepts of Afrofuturism and progressivism. In an interview with The Huffington Post, O'Brien stated, “We became really interested in mixing southern aspects of music -- soul, rock, blues, those sort of things -- with a progressive outlook, where we got really into dance music, house music, techno, psychedelic rock. The Bright Light Social Hour is an American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas. The band is composed of Jackie O'Brien on bass and vocals, Curtis Roush on guitar and vocals, Zac Catanzaro on drums, Mia Carruthers on keys and vocals, and Juan Alfredo Ríos on percussion. Plexifilm was an independent DVD label and film production company co-founded by Gary Hustwit (formerly VP of Salon.com) and Sean Anderson (formerly Director of DVD Development of The Criterion Collection) in 2001.
