("In the square of my village") is a Spanish-language song originating during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939, and is usually attributed to the anarchist CNT-FAI, a prominent labour organization at the time which sent its own militias to fight alongside the Spanish Republican Army during the Civil War. The melody is that of a Spanish folk song, "," which in turn is attributed to (or, in some accounts, simply written down by) Federico García Lorca. Lyrics *¹ "" in Spanish can mean either "comrade," in a political context, or something akin to "buddy" if informal. Since this song is very clearly political, it has been translated as "comrade." Cara Al Sol
(English: Facing the Sun) is the anthem of the Falange Española de las JONS. The lyrics were written in December 1935 and are usually credited to the leader of the Falange, José Antonio Primo de Rivera. The music was composed by Juan Tellería and Juan R. Buendia. The circumstances of its creation are unusual. The Falangists needed a stirring song of their own to counter the popular appeal of '' El Himno de Riego'' (the official anthem of the Second Spanish Republic) and ''A las Barricadas'' (a very popular Anarchist song). To solve the problem, Primo de Rivera formed a committee meeting on 2 December 1935 in the home of Marichu de la Mora Maura. Carlist
Carlism ( eu, Karlismo; ca, Carlisme; ; ) is a Traditionalist and Legitimist political movement in Spain aimed at establishing an alternative branch of the Bourbon dynasty – one descended from Don Carlos, Count of Molina (1788–1855) – on the Spanish throne. The movement was founded in consequence of a dispute over the succession laws and widespread dissatisfaction with the Alfonsine line of the House of Bourbon. It was at its strongest in the 1830s but experienced a revival following Spain's defeat in the Spanish–American War in 1898, when Spain lost its last remaining significant overseas territories of the Philippines, Cuba, Guam, and Puerto Rico to the United States. (English: March of Oriamendi), is the anthem of the Carlist movement. The name of the anthem stems from the battle of Oriamendi which took place in 1837 during the First Carlist War. History It was composed by José Juan Santesteban to celebrate the Liberal victory. When the Carlists eventually won, they appropriated the melody. The original lyrics were in Basque.
