"Somewhere in the Night" is a ballad written by Richard Kerr and lyricist Will Jennings which was a US Top 20 hit for both Helen Reddy and Barry Manilow. The first song composed by Kerr and Jennings as a team, "Somewhere in the Night" appeared on four 1975 album releases: ''You Are a Song'' by Batdorf & Rodney, ''Rising Sun'' by Yvonne Elliman, ''No Way to Treat a Lady'' by Helen Reddy released July 1975 and Kim Carnes' November 1975 eponymous album release. Helen Reddy
Helen Maxine Reddy (25 October 194129 September 2020) was an Australian-American singer, actress, television host, and activist. Born in Melbourne to a showbusiness family, Reddy started her career as an entertainer at age four. She sang on radio and television and won a talent contest on the television program '' Bandstand'' in 1966; her prize was a ticket to New York City and a record audition, which was unsuccessful. She pursued her international singing career by moving to Chicago, and subsequently, Los Angeles, where she made her debut singles " One Way Ticket" and " I Believe in Music" in 1968 and 1970, respectively. ''Kim Carnes'' is the second studio album by Kim Carnes, released in 1975 (see 1975 in music). The album gave Carnes her first hit, with "You're a Part of Me" (solo version) peaking in 1976 at #34 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. Although this album hasn't been released on CD, eight of the album's eleven songs can be found on the European CD "Master Series". Kim Carnes (; born July 20, 1945) is an American singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she began her career as a songwriter in the 1960s, writing for other artists while performing in local clubs and working as a session background singer with the famed Waters sisters (featured in the documentary '' 20 Feet from Stardom'').
