Sniper's Ridge
''Sniper's Ridge'' is a 1961 Korean War drama film directed by John A. Bushelman and starring Jack Ging and Stanley Clements. Plot In the days before the Korean War#Armistice .28July 1953 .E2.80.93 November 1954.29, cease-fire, a hard-luck platoon run by Lt. Peer and the cowardly Sgt. Sweatish is under continual attack and suffers heavy casualties. The only good soldier in the platoon is Cpl. Sharack, who should have been rotated off the line long ago but was kept on the front by Capt. Tombolo. The return of Cpl. Pumphrey reveals a deeper motive for the Captain's behavior – Tombolo did not try to rescue his children from a burning house and now tries to re-earn his self-respect with the lives of his men, especially Sharack whose heroism he is jealous of. When no one in the platoon wants to mark the location of an unexploded shell, Capt. Tombolo decides to do it himself. He steps on a mine, which will explode when he steps off. Jack Lee Ging (November 30, 1931 – September 9, 2022) was an American actor. He was best known as General Harlan "Bull" Fulbright on NBC's television adventure series ''The A-Team'', and for his supporting role in the final season of ''Tales of Wells Fargo'' starring Dale Robertson. Early life Born on November 30, 1931, Ging was the son of a couple who farmed on the outskirts of Alva, Oklahoma. Both sets of his grandparents were participants in the Cherokee Strip Land Run of 1893. When he was young, his parents divorced, and his mother began working as a "Harvey Girl". Although his mother had custody of him, her irregular hours as a waitress led to his living with relatives. Eventually, he settled with a family named Domenici while he attended a Catholic school. CinemaScope is an anamorphic lens series used, from 1953 to 1967, and less often later, for shooting widescreen films that, crucially, could be screened in theatres using existing equipment, albeit with a lens adapter. Its creation in 1953 by Spyros P. Skouras, the president of 20th Century Fox, marked the beginning of the modern anamorphic format in both principal 2.55:1, almost twice as wide as the previously common Academy format's 1.37:1 ratio. Although the technology behind the CinemaScope lens system was made obsolete by later developments, primarily advanced by Panavision, CinemaScope's anamorphic format has continued to this day. Stanley Clements (born Stanislaw Klimowicz; July 16, 1926 – October 16, 1981) was an American actor and comedian, best known for portraying "Stash" in the East Side Kids film series, and group leader Stanislaus "Duke" Coveleskie in The Bowery Boys film series. Life and career Stanley Clements was born in Long Island, New York. Young "Stosh" (the Polish diminutive nickname for "Stanislau") realized that he wanted a show-business career while he was in grammar school, and after he graduated from Brooklyn's P.S. 49 in 1938, for the next two years he toured in vaudeville and found work in radio. He then joined the touring company of the ''Major Bowes Amateur Hour''. His career stalled in 1940, and Clements was reduced to panhandling for a time to survive.
