''Smooth as Silk'' is a 1946 American noir film directed by Charles Barton and starring Kent Taylor, Virginia Grey, and Milburn Stone. The film is also known as ''Notorious Gentleman'' as it is a version of 1935 film '' A Notorious Gentleman''. The film focuses on the murder of a theater producer (John Litel) committed by a lawyer (Kent Taylor), after the lawyer's bride, an actress (Virginia Gray), left him for the producer to win a role in his new musical. Despite the fascinating plot and tense intrigue, this film failed to attract much attention. Charles Barton (director)
Charles Barton (May 25, 1902December 5, 1981) was an American film and vaudeville actor and film director. He won an Oscar for best assistant director in 1933. His first film as a director was the Zane Grey feature '' Wagon Wheels'', starring Randolph Scott, in 1934. Barton worked in Hollywood B-movie units. From 1946, he was a principal director of the Abbott and Costello comedies, such as '' The Time of Their Lives'', '' Buck Privates Come Home,'' '' Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,'' and ''Africa Screams''. He later directed Walt Disney films such as '' The Shaggy Dog'' and ''Toby Tyler''. Bert Moorhouse (sometimes incorrectly billed as Bert Moorehouse) (November 20, 1894 – January 26, 1954) was an American character actor whose career began at the very tail end of the silent era, and lasted through the mid-1950s. Biography Born Herbert Green Moorhouse in Chicago, Illinois in 1894, he would enter the film industry in 1928 with featured roles in two FBO productions: ''Rough Ridin' Red'', and the Hugh Trevor vehicle '' Hey Rube!'' He would appear in either featured or small roles in over 130 films during his 26-year career, as well as more than 200 other pictures in which he appeared as an extra. In 1954 he had small roles in three films, the last of which to be premiered was ''Dangerous Mission'', which starred Victor Mature, Piper Laurie, William Bendix, and Vincent Price. Theresa Harris (December 31, 1906 – October 8, 1985) was an American television and film actress, singer and dancer. Early life Harris was born on New Year's Eve 1906 (some sources indicate 1909) in Houston, Texas, to Isaiah and Mable Harris, both of whom were former sharecroppers from Louisiana.
