Slovenská Hadzanárska Extraliga
Extraliga is the highest league in the league system of Slovak Handball and comprises the top 8 Slovak handball teams. The first season began in 1993-94. Structure The season starts in the end of September with a regular season comprising 8 teams meeting each other twice. The 4 best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The season ends with a single final in the end of April. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. HT Tatran Prešov is a handball club from Prešov, Slovakia, that plays in the Slovenská hadzanárska extraliga, Niké Handball Extraliga, SEHA League, EHF European League. History The official establishment of the club begins in 1952 under the name Slavia CSSA. In 1954, Tatran successfully qualified for the championship of Czechoslovakia, where they won their first historic bronze medal. In 1967, the national team of Czechoslovakia became world champion in Sweden.
