''Severance'' is a 2006 comedy horror film co-written and directed by Christopher Smith (director), Christopher Smith. Co-written with James Moran (writer), James Moran, it stars Danny Dyer and Laura Harris. Severance Township is a township in Sibley County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 343 at the 2000 census. History Severance Township was originally called Clear Lake Township, and under the latter name was organized in 1870. The name was later changed, to Severance, after Martin Juan Severance, a state legislator. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 38.1 square miles (98.6 km), of which 36.5 square miles (94.5 km) is land and 1.6 square miles (4.1 km) (4.15%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 343 people, 119 households, and 96 families residing in the township. The population density was 9.4 people per square mile (3.6/km). There were 123 housing units at an average density of 3.4/sq mi (1.3/km). Frank Hayward Severance (November 28, 1856January 26, 1931) was an American historian. Severance was born on November 28, 1856, in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. When he was five years old, his parents moved to Whitewater, Wisconsin, where he grew up and learned printing. After a year in Knox College, he went to Cornell University and graduated in 1879. He was managing editor of ''The Cornell Review'', and in his senior year was one of the editors of the ''Cornell Era''. He was the junior class poet and was re-elected for the senior year. His vacations were spent either in newspaper work or in travel. Dave Elliott Severance (February 4, 1919 – August 2, 2021) was a United States Marine Corps colonel. During World War II, he served as the commanding officer of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines and led his company in the battle of Iwo Jima. During the battle, Severance ordered his 3rd Platoon to scale Mount Suribachi and raise the flag at the summit. Early life Severance was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on February 4, 1919. He was raised in Greeley, Colorado before briefly attending college at the University of Washington. When he ran out of money for school, Severance enlisted in the Marine Corps. Cordenio Arnold Severance (1862—1925) was an American lawyer from Minnesota. He co-founded the American Law Institute and served as president of the American Bar Association. His wife, known as Mrs. Cordenio A. Severance published the book ''Indian Legends of Minnesota'' and survived the sinking of the RMS ''Republic'' in 1909. Biography Severance was born in Mantorville, Minnesota in 1862. He attended Carleton College from 1877 to 1880 and then read law from 1882 to 1883 in Kasson, Minnesota. He was admitted to the state bar and by 1887, he had entered into partnership in St. Paul with former U.S. Attorney and Governor Cushman Davis and future U.S. Senator and Secretary of State Frank Kellogg. Charles Stanard Severance (born September 25, 1960) is a convicted American serial killer whose crimes took place in Alexandria, Virginia, between 2003 and 2014. He was convicted by a Virginia court in 2016 of three shooting deaths and sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 48 years. He was tried for the killings of three individuals: Ruthanne Lodato in 2014, Ronald Kirby in 2013, and Nancy Dunning in 2003. The case received considerable attention in the city because Severance (as convicted) attacked in broad daylight by knocking on victim's doors and killing those who answered with a .22 caliber firearm, with investigators eventually finding writings from Severance titled "Knock. Caroline Maria Seymour Severance (1820–1914) was an American abolitionist, suffragist, and founder of women's clubs. Early life and education Caroline Maria Seymour was born on January 12, 1820, in Canandaigua, New York, the daughter of a banker, Orson Seymour, and his wife Caroline M. Clarke. Caroline's father died in 1824, and the family relocated to Auburn, New York. A strict Presbyterian uncle had an outsized influence over Caroline. As an artist she had a special interest in Pacific Island peoples and their environments. In high school she held the Amateur Rocketry Association’s High Altitude Record. After growing up in Denver and earning an art degree, she served with the Peace Corps on remote atolls in Micronesia and traveled interisland on traditional sailing canoes.
