"Seventeen" is a single by American rock band Winger from their debut album ''Winger''. Released in 1989, the song charted at No. 26 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The song was named the 87th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. The B-side for this single was the album cut "Poison Angel". Background According to Kip Winger, he took inspiration from the Beatles song " I Saw Her Standing There", which contains the lyric, "Well she was just seventeen / If you know what I mean / And the way she looked / Was way beyond compare" and was not aware that age Seventeen is underage in some jurisdictions. Winger said guitarist Reb Beach wrote the main riff when he was about 15, but was unsure how to use it. However, Winger had an idea, and wove it into the song. He said they were trying to rip off a Led Zeppelin song with "weird syncopation" on the verse, though he cannot remember which song it was anymore — probably "The Crunge" or " Walter's Walk". Winger is an American hard rock band formed in New York City in 1987. Winger gained popularity during the late 1980s and early 1990s with two RIAA certification, platinum albums, ''Winger (album), Winger'' and ''In the Heart of the Young'', along with charting singles "Seventeen (Winger song), Seventeen", "Headed for a Heartbreak" and "Miles Away (Winger song), Miles Away". In 1990, the band was nominated for an American Music Award for "Best New Heavy Metal Band". As the music scene changed in the early to mid-1990s due to the popularity of grunge, their success faded following their third release, 1993's ''Pull (Winger album), Pull''. ''Coda'' is the ninth and final studio album, as well as the first compilation album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. It is a collection of rejected and live tracks from various sessions during the band's twelve-year career. The album was released on 26 November 1982, almost two years after the group had officially disbanded following the death of drummer John Bonham. In 2015, a remastered version of the entire album with two discs of additional material was released. Background The fifth Swan Song Records album for the band, ''Coda'' was released to honour contractual commitments to Atlantic Records and also to cover tax demands on previous monies earned. It cleared away nearly all of the leftover tracks from the various studio sessions of the 1960s and 1970s. The album was a collection of eight tracks spanning the length of Zeppelin's twelve-year history. "The Crunge" is a song by the English rock music, rock band Led Zeppelin from their 1973 album ''Houses of the Holy''. The song is a takeoff on James Brown's style of funk similar to the group's attempt at reggae with "D'yer Mak'er". It was also released as the B-side of "D'yer Mak'er" in the US. Composition and recording The song evolved out of a jam session in the studio. John Bonham started the beat, John Paul Jones (musician), John Paul Jones came in on bass, Jimmy Page played a funk guitar riff (and a chord sequence that he had been experimenting with since 1970), and Robert Plant started singing. For the recording, Page played a Fender Stratocaster guitar and it is possible to hear him depressing a whammy bar at the end of each phrase. The song is primarily in 9/8, giving its distinctive, off-kilter rhythm.
