''Seventeen'' is a 1940 American comedy film based upon the novel of the same name by Booth Tarkington and the subsequent play written by Stannard Mears, Hugh Stanislaus Stange and Stuart Walker. Directed by Louis King, the film stars Jackie Cooper, Betty Field, Otto Kruger, Ann Shoemaker, Norma Gene Nelson and Betty Moran. It was released on March 1, 1940, by Paramount Pictures. Louis King
Louis King (June 28, 1898 – September 7, 1962) was an American actor and film director of westerns and adventure movies in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. Early years King was born in 1898 in Christiansburg, Virginia. His name was also written as L.H. King and Lewis King. A brother of director Henry King (director), Henry King, he grew up on a tobacco farm. Their parents died in 1918, after which he moved to California, where his brother was already working in films. Career King first worked for his brother, who was acting and directing for the Balboa Film Company. Then he became a "general handy man" for American Film Company. He entered the film business in 1919 as a character actor. He specialized in villains and blusterers. Peter Lind Hayes
Peter Lind Hayes (born Joseph Conrad Lind Jr.; June 25, 1915 – April 21, 1998) was an American vaudeville entertainer and film and television actor. Early life Hayes was born in San Francisco, the son of Joseph Conrad Lind Sr., a railroad man and amateur singer, and vaudeville entertainer Grace Hayes (1895–1989). Joseph Lind Sr. died when his son was two years old. Hayes attended parochial school in Cairo, Illinois, during his early childhood before moving to the New York City suburb of New Rochelle and continuing his education there. Career Hayes made his vaudeville debut with his mother at the age of six. In 1939, his mother sold some jewelry and borrowed $8,000 to open the Grace Hayes Lodge in Los Angeles, where he began working as a nightclub performer. Fred 'Snowflake' Toones
Fred "Snowflake" Toones (January 5, 1906 – February 13, 1962) was an American actor and comedian. He appeared in over 200 films in his career spanning 23 years. Career He appeared in over 200 films between 1928 and 1951. His standard characterization was that of a middle-aged "colored" man with a high-pitched voice and childlike demeanor. Like ‘Curly’ Howard and Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister, who followed the black tradition of using an antonymous nickname as both their professional name and character name, "Snowflake" was the distinct stage name by which Toones was best known, and he used this name as his credit as early as his third film, 1931's ''Shanghaied Love''. Stanley Price (December 31, 1892July 13, 1955) was an American film supporting actor who appeared in over 200 films between 1922 and 1956. He was a charter member of the Screen Actors Guild. Career Price was an actor whose artistic career spanned four different decades, from silents through talkies to the advent of color. He debuted in the silent movie '' Your Best Friend'' (William Nigh, 1922), sharing starring duties with Vera Gordon and Harry Benham. After that, he became a familiar figure, wearing either cowboy rustler outfits or gangster nice suits, particularly in the cliffhanger serials of the 1930s through the early 1950s. Hal Clements
Hal Clements (1869-1957) was an American actor and director of silent films. He starred in dozens of silent films. He married writer Olga Printzlau. Clements was part of Kalem Studio's Jacksonville film crew. In 1914, he directed and managed the studio's comedy unit in Santa Monica featuring Ruth Roland and John Brennan (actor). He portrayed General John Pershing in a Thomas Ince film. In 1916 he was managing director of the new Gate City Feature Film Company.
