In ''The X-Files'' television show and feature film, the Syndicate is a shadow government group. They were also known as The Elders, The Consortium, and The Group. Because of their cover-up of extraterrestrial life, they were the primary antagonistic force opposing Dana Scully, Fox Mulder, John Doggett, and Monica Reyes during the series. Goals and methods An embodiment of the concept of the shadow government in conspiracy theory lore, the Syndicate is composed of covertly allied influential government officials and businessmen. The Syndicate, operating at the highest levels of power, concealed from the world a program by an unidentified extraterrestrial species to colonize and repopulate the planet, as well as their own plans and stake in that future, which they held to be inevitable. ''Syndicate'' is a series of science fiction video games created by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts. There are two main titles: ''Syndicate'' (1993) and '' Syndicate Wars'' (1996), both of which are isometric real-time tactics games. An additional first-person shooter ''Syndicate'' title was released in 2012, and a spiritual successor to the series (returning to the real-time tactics format), entitled '' Satellite Reign'', was released in 2015. Games ''Syndicate'' (1993) ''Syndicate'', the first game in the series, was first released for PC and Amiga in June 1993, with later releases on other platforms including Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari Jaguar, and PlayStation Portable. ''Syndicate'' is an isometric real-time tactical and strategic game from Bullfrog Productions created in 1993, and released for a variety of platforms beginning with the PC and Commodore Amiga. It is the first title in the ''Syndicate'' series. Set in a dystopian future in which corporations have replaced governments, ''Syndicate'' puts the player in control of a corporation vying for global dominance. The game consists of a series of missions in which the player controls a team of cybernetically modified agents attempting to take control of a particular country. The agents must frequently overcome local police forces and heavily armed agents from rival syndicates to achieve mission objectives, which range from assassinations to capture or rescue of personnel. ''Syndicate Wars'' is an isometric real-time tactical and strategic game, developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts. It was released for DOS in 1996 and for the PlayStation in 1997. It is the second video game title in the ''Syndicate'' series, retaining the core gameplay and perspective of the original ''Syndicate'', but with a setting 95 years further into the future. A first-person shooter follow-up (simply titled ''Syndicate (2012 video game), Syndicate'') was developed by Starbreeze Studios and released in February 2012.
