Symphonic Black Metal
Symphonic black metal is a subgenre of black metal that emerged in the 1990s and incorporates symphonic and orchestral elements. History One of the earliest forerunners in what would come to be the sound of symphonic metal was Celtic Frost on their 1987 album '' Into the Pandemonium''. The first extreme metal bands incorporating classical, orchestral, and operatic elements into their music were Mekong Delta, Bulldozer on their album ''Neurodeliri'' (1988), Believer on '' Sanity Obscure'' (1990) and ''Dimensions'' (1993),; ; > Master's Hammer on ''Ritual'' (1991) and '' Jilemnický okultista'' (1992 demo and 1993 album) and Sigh on their debut '' Scorn Defeat'' (1993). The style on Emperor's '' In the Nightside Eclipse'' (1994) had a pioneering influence though and was the main inspiration for many keyboard-based black metal bands following after. Troll's ''Drep de kristne'' (1995) and Arcturus' '' Aspera Hiems Symfonia'' (1996) are other notable early works of symphonic ... Symphonic Metal
Symphonic metal is a cross-genre style designation for the symphonic subsets of heavy metal music subgenres. It is used to denote any metal band that makes use of symphonic or orchestral elements. The style features the heavy drums and guitars of metal with different elements of orchestral classical music, such as symphonic instruments, choirs and sometimes a full orchestra, or just keyboard orchestration. Symphonic metal bands can feature classically trained vocalists, in which case they can be attributed nicknames such as opera metal or operatic metal. Perhaps the most prominent examples of symphonic metal bands are Swedish band Therion (band), Therion, Finnish band Nightwish, German band Xandria, Italian band Rhapsody of Fire, American bands Lorna Shore and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Dutch bands Epica (band), Epica and Within Temptation. Those bands place a large focus on elements prevalent in film scores in addition to the more basic classical components utilized more wi ... Aspera Hiems Symfonia
''Aspera Hiems Symfonia'' (Latin for "Harsh Winter Symphony") is the debut studio album by the Norwegian avant-garde metal band Arcturus. It has primarily a black metal sound, though still contains many of the experimental elements that would be expanded upon on their following albums, which saw the band shift permanently into the genres of avant-garde and progressive metal. Four of the album's songs are re-recorded versions of tracks from the ''Constellation'' EP, whereas the other four are new songs. Background The music on ''Aspera'' is relatively down-tempo, atmospheric black metal, and is much more restrained in character and lyrical content than major black metal acts such as Mayhem and Darkthrone. The album's production is also thin and lo-fi in nature. The lyrical themes revolve around nature, winter, alchemy, astronomy, and Viking folklore and mythology. Reception AllMusic wrote, "''Aspera'' is a powerhouse album chock full of charged riffs, sinister chants and howls ... Troll (band)
Troll is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band. History Troll was founded in 1992, when 14-year-old Stian Arnesen aka "Nagash" started writing music with Glaurung and Fafnir. When Glaurung and Fafnir left the project, Nagash continued Troll as a solo project and released ''Trollstorm over Nidingjuv'' in 1995 and ''Drep de kristne'' in 1996. Following the release of ''Drep de kristne'', Nagash spent more time working with other bands such as Dimmu Borgir and his other band Covenant that he started with Blackheart. Troll was inactive until 2000. By that time Fafnir, now under the name Sinister Minister Twice, had rejoined Troll. Other members were also added, making Troll a group and no longer a solo project. With Nagash concentrating on guitar and synth, Troll released ''The Last Predators'' in 2000 and ''Universal'' in 2001. Significant progress took place between ''Drep de kristne'' and ''Last Predators''. Lyrical content was now mainly English, and the imagery revolved les ... In The Nightside Eclipse
''In the Nightside Eclipse'' is the debut studio album by Norwegian black metal band Emperor, released in 1994 through Candlelight Records. It was their only album to feature drummer Faust and one-time bassist Tchort. Considered a landmark in the black metal scene, the album has been ranked by critics as one of the most influential albums of the genre. It also contains some of Emperor's best known tracks, "I Am the Black Wizards" and "Inno a Satana". Recording and production The album was co-produced by Pytten, who produced Mayhem's ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'' and Burzum's debut album, as well as albums by Immortal and Enslaved. Faust partially credits Pytten with the sound of ''In the Nightside Eclipse''. Most of the music was written and rehearsed before the band entered the studio. However, much of the symphonic keyboard sections were composed in the studio at the time of recording as the band did not then have a permanent keyboard player. Ihsahn was 17 years old at ... Emperor (Norwegian Band)
Emperor is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1991 by guitarist and vocalist Ihsahn and guitarist Samoth. The group split up in 2001, but reunited from 2005 to 2007 for a few festival dates and brief US tours, and again reunited in 2013 to 2014. Emperor reformed for the third time in 2016. The two young men began playing together under various names; first Dark Device, then Xerasia, then Embryonic. The group soon evolved into the now well-known band Thou Shalt Suffer. Soon, however, Samoth began to write music outside of Thou Shalt Suffer, and together with Ihsahn and a new bass player called Håvard Ellefsen, Mortiis (later of his own eponymous band Mortiis), Emperor was formed. After a short while together, the band released a demo entitled ''Wrath of the Tyrant''. It quickly gained popularity in the undergr ... Jilemnický Okultista
''Jilemnický okultista'' (English: "the Jilemnice occultist") is the second studio album by Czech black metal band Master's Hammer, self-released in December 1992 and distributed by Osmose Productions in the following year. Described by the band as "the world's first black metal operetta" and largely inspired by King Diamond (band), King Diamond's rock operas, it is their first of two concept albums, the second being ''Vagus Vetus'', released in 2014. On several early Osmose pressings, ''Jilemnice'' is misspelled as "Filemnice", which was corrected on later pressings. Ritual
A ritual is a repeated, structured sequence of actions or behaviors that alters the internal or external state of an individual, group, or environment, regardless of conscious understanding, emotional context, or symbolic meaning. Traditionally associated with gestures, words, or revered objects, rituals also occur in non-human species, such as elephant mourning or corvid object-leaving. They may be prescribed by tradition, including religious practices, and are often characterized by formalism, traditionalism, rule-governance, and performance. Rituals are a feature of all known human societies. They include not only the worship rites and sacraments of organized religions and cults, but also rites of passage, atonement and ritual purification, purification rites, oaths of allegiance, dedication ceremonies, coronations and presidential inaugurations, marriages, funerals and more. Even common actions like handshake, hand-shaking and saying "hello" may be termed as ''rituals''. Th ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
