Sustainment Brigades were created as part of the early 21st century transformation of the United States Army from a division-based structure to a brigade-based army. Mission The sustainment brigade is a flexible headquarters that is task organized to support unified land operations and command subordinate sustainment organizations. It is task organized with a combination of combat sustainment support battalions and functional logistics battalions It is a multifunctional headquarters that integrates and employs sustainment units while planning and synchronizing sustainment operations. 96th Sustainment Brigade (United States)
The 96th Infantry Division was an infantry division (military) of the United States Army. It was formed in 1918 and served in World War I and in the Pacific War during World War II. It was reformed after the war and was part of the United States Army Reserve until 1965. In 1967 the number "96" was resurrected for a U.S. Army Reserve area administrative headquarters, the 96th Army Reserve Command. Technically it had no lineage connection to the 96th Infantry Division. With a number of redesignations, it continues in service in the 21st Century. North Little Rock

89th Sustainment Brigade
The 89th Sustainment Brigade is a subordinate command of 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command and one of only eight of its kind in the United States Army Reserve. The unit is the latest addition in the Army Transformation process for the 451st but will manage a peacetime downtrace that has command and control of approximately 1,700 Army Reservists located throughout the Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska areas, and its Soldiers support diverse missions that are logistical in nature.
