Sukkur
Sukkur is a city in the Pakistani province of Sindh along the western bank of the Indus River, directly across from the historic city of Rohri. Sukkur is the List of cities in Sindh by population, third largest city in Sindh after Karachi and Hyderabad, Sindh, Hyderabad, and List of most populous cities in Pakistan, 17th largest city of Pakistan by population. Sukkur District (, ) is a district in Sindh Province in Pakistan. Two districts have been split off from the territory of Sukkur: Shikarpur District, Shikarpur in 1977 and Ghotki District, Ghotki in 1993. According to 2023 Pakistani census population of Sukkur District is 1,625,467 (1.6 million). Sukkur Barrage
Sukkur Barrage (, ) is a Barrage (dam), barrage on the River Indus near the city of Sukkur in the Sindh province of Pakistan. The barrage was built during the British Raj from 1923 to 1932 and was named Lloyd Barrage. It is considered to be the largest single irrigation network of its kind in the world. It irrigates from Sukkur district in the north, to Mirpurkhas/Tharparkar and Hyderabad, Sindh, Hyderabad districts in the south of Sindh, almost all parts of the province. Sukkur Rail Disaster
The Sukkur rail disaster occurred on 4 January 1990 in the village of Sangi, near Sukkur in Sindh, Pakistan, claiming 307 lives. This makes it the deadliest rail accident in the country's history. The Bahauddin Zakaria Express, on an overnight journey from Multan to Karachi, was significantly over capacity with far more passengers than its 1,408-seat limit. The train was meant to pass through Sangi, but misaligned rail points diverted it into a siding where it collided with a stationary 67-car freight train at a speed of at least . The collision destroyed the first three carriages and severely damaged two others, resulting in 700 injuries alongside the fatalities. An investigation held railway staff directly responsible for the disaster, leading to manslaughter charges against three employees on duty at Sangi station. Sukkur Airport , also known as Begum Nusrat Bhutto International Airport Sukkur, is a domestic airport located in Sukkur, Sindh, Pakistan. It is a medium-sized airport located about from the centre of Sukkur, and serves Sukkur and its surrounding areas; Khairpur, Jacobabad, Sibi, and Shikarpur. Sukkur International Airport is the second main operational airport in Sindh, after Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. The paved runway is about 2,700 metres long. It also handles international flights, especially in time of emergencies and because of bad weather conditions. Sukkur cricket team, from the town of Sukkur, in the district of Sukkur in the north of Sindh province, played in the Pakistan domestic first-class cricket competitions between 1974–75 and 1986–87. The team no longer plays first-class cricket. First-class history 1970s Sukkur made their debut with a game against the Public Works Department in the 1974-75 BCCP Patron's Trophy, losing by 427 runs after being dismissed for 49 and 174.
