Society For Japanese Arts
The Society for Japanese Arts was founded in 1937 by a group of Dutch collectors of, and dealers in, Japanese art. Originally called The Society for Japanese Arts and Crafts, the society became international in the 1960s. It currently has over 550 members in 24 countries. The Society sponsors lectures, exhibitions and publications. It awards grants through the Heinz M. Kaempfer Fund, and publishes the journal ''Andon'' (ISSN 0168-2997) in English, which provides results of research about various ukiyo-e is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Japanese Art
Japanese art consists of a wide range of art styles and media that includes Jōmon pottery, ancient pottery, Japanese sculpture, sculpture, Ink wash painting, ink painting and Japanese calligraphy, calligraphy on silk and paper, Ukiyo-e, paintings and Woodblock printing in Japan, woodblock prints, Japanese pottery and porcelain, ceramics, origami, bonsai, and more recently manga and anime. Ukiyo-e
is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock printing, woodblock prints and Nikuhitsu-ga, paintings of such subjects as female beauties; kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers; scenes from history and folk tales; travel scenes and landscapes; Flora of Japan, flora and Wildlife of Japan#Fauna, fauna; and Shunga, erotica. Utagawa Kunisada III
Utagawa Kunisada III (歌川国貞) (1848–1920) was an ''ukiyo-e'' printmaker of the Utagawa school, specializing in ''yakusha-e'' (pictures of kabuki actors). He began studying under Utagawa Kunisada I at the age of 10, and continued under Kunisada II after their master's death. He originally signed his prints "Kunimasa" or "Baidō Kunimasa". About 1889, he began signing his prints "Kunisada", "Baidō Kunisada" or "Kōchōrō Kunisada".
