"Sitting in the Midday Sun" is a song by British rock band The Kinks, written by their frontman and main songwriter Ray Davies. It was recorded in June 1973 and released as a single in the US and UK the same year. Reviews were generally positive, but it failed to chart. "Sitting in the Midday Sun" was included on ''Preservation Act 1'', released in November 1973. The Kinks
The Kinks were an English rock band formed in London in 1963 by brothers Ray Davies, Ray and Dave Davies, and Pete Quaife. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. Alan Holmes
Alan Holmes is a musician and record producer, based in north Wales. Although he began his musical career in the late 1960s in childhood beat group the Insects, he first came to prominence in the Zuggs (in 1979), followed by A Silly Tree, the latter including Gary Stubbs, later of Cut Tunes with whom Holmes also served. Holmes was responsible for the cult psychedelic music, psychedelic band the Pinecones and by the mid-1980s he was a key member of Reinheitsgebot, Third Spain and the Lungs. Holmes' career came into its own as bass-player with the late-1980s Welsh language Punk rock, punk group Fflaps, who released two LPs for the Liverpool Probe Plus label and a third for the Central Slate label, in addition to touring Europe extensively between 1988 and 1992. Mick Avory
Michael Charles Avory (born 15 February 1944) is an English musician, best known as the longtime drummer and percussionist for the English rock band the Kinks. He joined them shortly after their formation in 1964 and remained with them until 1984, when he left amid creative friction with guitarist Dave Davies. He is the longest-serving member of the band, apart from the Davies brothers. He is also the most prolific member, again apart from the Davies brothers, who has played on twenty studio albums or nearly all of the band's creative output. John Dalton (musician)
John Dalton (born 21 May 1943) is a British bass guitar player, best known as a member of the Kinks in 1966 and between 1969 and 1976, replacing original member Pete Quaife. Biography John Dalton was educated at Cheshunt Secondary Modern School at the same time as Harry Webb (who later found fame as Cliff Richard). Dalton's desire was to be a full-time musician, and in 1959 he joined Danny King and the Bluejacks as bass guitarist (although he claimed in a 2009 interview, that he could not play a note when he joined). He played alongside Norman Mitham who had just left Cliff Richard's first band. Dave Davies
David Russell Gordon Davies ( '; born 3 February 1947) is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the English rock band the Kinks, led by his older brother (and principal writer and singer) Ray, and the both of them were the only consistent members during their existence. Davies also sometimes undertook writing and/or lead vocals duties within the band, for example on songs such as " Death of a Clown", " Party Line", "Strangers" and "Rats". He has also embarked on a solo career, releasing several singles during the late 1960s and has since released eight solo albums. Davies is known for innovative electric guitar technique, specifically in being one of the first to use electric guitar distortion and exposing the effect to the mainstream. "Sitting by the Riverside" is a song by the English rock band the Kinks from their sixth studio album, ''The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society'' (1968). Written and sung by Ray Davies, it was recorded in July1968. The song features honky-tonk piano and a Mellotron which duplicates the sound of an accordion. Sunny Afternoon
"Sunny Afternoon" is a song by the Kinks, written by Ray Davies and released as a single in June 1966. The track was included on the '' Face to Face'' album released in late October, and served as the title track for a 1967 compilation album. Like its contemporary "Taxman" by the Beatles, the song references the high levels of progressive tax taken by the British Labour government of Harold Wilson, although it does so through the lens of an unsympathetic aristocrat bemoaning the loss of his vast unearned wealth. Its strong music hall flavour and lyrical focus was part of a stylistic departure for the band (begun with 1965's " A Well Respected Man"), which had risen to fame in 1964–65 with a series of hard-driving, power-chord rock hits. Stephen Thomas Erlewine (; born June 18, 1973) is an American music critic and former senior editor for the online music database AllMusic.
