Simca Poissy Engine
The Simca Poissy engine, commonly known as the Simca 1100 engine, was a straight-4, four-cylinder overhead valve engine developed by Simca for use in its Supermini car, superminis and economy cars, designed by the engineer Georges Martin (engineer), Georges Martin (V12 Matra Sports engine designer). In spite of its common name, the engine actually predates the Simca 1100 model, and debuted in 1961 in the Simca 1000. It was developed and produced by Simca (subsequently rebranded as Talbot) in the late 1960s at the manufacturer's PSA Poissy Plant, factory in Poissy, hence its name. Peugeot 309
The Peugeot 309 is a small family car that was manufactured between 1985 and 1994 in France, England and Spain by PSA Peugeot Citroën. It was originally intended to be badged as a Talbot (automobile), Talbot and, as development progressed, to be called the Talbot Arizona. It was the replacement for the Chrysler Horizon, Talbot Horizon, which had started life as a Chrysler Europe, Chrysler in Britain and a Simca in France, and was also being built in several guises for the market in America. A straight-four engine (also referred to as an inline-four engine) is a four-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. The majority of automotive four-cylinder engines use a straight-four layout (with the exceptions of the flat-four engines produced by Subaru and Porsche) and the layout is also very common in motorcycles and other machinery. Chrysler Europe
Chrysler Europe was the American automotive company Chrysler's operations in Europe from 1967 through 1978. It was formed from the merger of the French Simca, British Rootes and Spanish Barreiros companies. In 1978, Chrysler divested these operations to PSA Peugeot Citroën. Chrysler Horizon
The Talbot Horizon is a compact hatchback designed by Chrysler Europe, manufactured and marketed for model years 1978-1987 under the Simca, Chrysler and Talbot brands, succeeding both the Simca 1100 and Hillman Avenger, and using a front-wheel drive, transverse-engine layout. Though the Hillman Avenger had been developed with global marketing in mind, the results had been less than successful. The Horizon became Chrysler Corporation's first successful world car, with the Chrysler Europe project developed in tandem with the American-market Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon. A poppet valve (also sometimes called mushroom valve) is a valve typically used to control the timing and quantity of petrol (gas) or vapour flow into or out of an engine, but with many other applications. It consists of a hole or open-ended chamber, usually round or oval in cross-section, and a plug, usually a disk shape on the end of a shaft known as a valve stem. The Simca Coupé 1000 and its successor, the Simca 1200S are small, rear-engined two-door coupés (described by one well informed commentator as “''Pseudo-sportives''”) which were produced by Simca between 1962 and 1971. Simca also provided the engine and the mechanical underpinnings while the small elegant bodies were built in Turin by Bertone before being transferred for final assembly to Simca's Poissy plant and an assembly plant in Rotterdam (1200S only) on specially configured trains.
