Seni Rebab
The Seni rebab ( Hindustani: सेनी रबाब (Devanagari), ( Nastaleeq), Punjabi: ਸੇਨੀ ਰੱਬਾਬ), also known as the Seniya rabab ( Hindustani: सेनिया रबाब (Devanagari), ( Nastaleeq)) is a plucked string instrument used in northern India that is said to have been developed by, and to have taken its name from, the notable musician Tansen in the time of the emperor Akbar the Great. It has "a large hook at the back of its head, making it easier for a musician to sling it over the shoulder and play it even while walking." It has been used in Hindustani classical music and religiously, in Sikh music. The rebab influenced the development of the sarod, another Indian musical instrument. Akbar (Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar, – ), popularly known as Akbar the Great, was the third Mughal emperor, who reigned from 1556 to 1605. Akbar succeeded his father, Humayun, under a regent, Bairam Khan, who helped the young emperor expand and consolidate Mughal domains in the Indian subcontinent. Mirasi
The Mirasi (; ; ) are a community found in North India and Pakistan. They are folklore tellers and traditional singers and dancers of a number of communities. The word "mirasi" is derived from the Arabic word (ميراث) ''mīrās'', which means inheritance or sometimes heritage. In the strict grammatical sense of the term, they are considered to be propagators of the cultural and social heritage. Bhai Mardana
Bhai Mardana (; 1459 — 1534) was one of the first Sikhs and longtime companion of Guru Nanak Dev, first in the line of gurus noted in Sikhism. Bhai Mardana was a Muslim by-birth who would accompany Guru Nanak Dev on his journeys and became one of his first disciples and followers, and converted to the newly established religion. Bhai Mardana was born to a Mirasi Muslim family, a couple, Badra and Lakkho, of Rai Bhoi di Talwandi, now Nankana Sahib of Pakistan. He was the seventh born, all other children had died at birth. Govardhan (painter)
Govardhan (fl. 1595–1640) was a Mughal era Indian painter of the Mughal school of painting. His father Bhavani Das, had been a minor painter in the imperial workshop. Like many other Mughal painters, they were Hindus. He joined the imperial service during the reign of Akbar and he continued his work till the reign of Shah Jahan. The examples of his work that are still extant show that he was fond of rich, sensuous colour and softly modelled forms. Govardhan was one of the illustrators of the ''Baburnama'' currently located in the British Museum, London. The ''Jahangir celebrating the festival of Ab-Pashi'' (1615), presently kept in the Raza Library in Rampur, India is one of his significant creations. Dhadi (music)
Dhadi ( (Gurmukhi), Dhādi), also spelled as Dhadhi, is one who sings ballads using Dhadd and Sarangi, the folk instruments of Punjab. According to Kahn Singh Nabha's Mahan Kosh the definition of ''dhadhi'' is "One who sings ballads of warriors playing Dhadd". Dhadis are a distinct group performers emerged in the time of Sikh gurus. A Ragi (; ''rāgī'') is a Sikhism, Sikh musician who plays hymns (Shabda, shabads) in different ragas as prescribed in the Guru Granth Sahib. Role Professional Sikh musical performances are usually done within Gurdwara, gurdwaras. Within the central room, there is a dedicated space beside the sacred scripture for the ''rāgī jathā'' (ragi ensemble) on an elevated stage. Rababi (Gurmukhi: ਰਬਾਬੀ) is a term used to refer to a player of the Seni rebab, rabab instrument. In the Sikh liturgical tradition, there are three types of musicians—rababis, Ragi (Sikhism), ragis, and Dhadi (music), dhadhis, all of which flourished during the period of the Sikh gurus, gurus. Sarod
The sarod is a stringed instrument, used in Hindustani music on the Indian subcontinent. Along with the sitar, it is among the most popular and prominent instruments. It is known for a deep, weighty, introspective sound, in contrast with the sweet, overtone-rich texture of the sitar, with sympathetic strings that give it a resonant, reverberant quality. A fretless instrument, it can produce the continuous slides between notes known as '' meend'' (glissandi), which are important in Indian music.
