Secretariat Building, Brunei
The Secretariat Building () or formerly known as the Brunei Government Offices and Government Secretariat Building (''Bangunan Setiausaha Kerajaan'') is the oldest government structure that serves the State Secretariat of Brunei or the seat of government. The building is located at Jalan Elizabeth II, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. The building is currently under the protection of the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act of the Museums Department. History Following the completion of the design and layout plans in the first part of the previous year. Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III set the foundation stone on 19 November 1952, and it was finished in August 1953, completely furnished in the style of classic concrete colonial architecture. Namakkal Kavignar Maligai
Namakkal Kavignar Maligai is an 11-storied building at the Fort St. George campus in Chennai, India, serving as the power centre of state secretariat of Tamil Nadu. It is the only skyscraper built within the Fort campus. As of 2014, there were about 6,000 staff at the secretariat. History The fort was built by the British rulers in 1640. After Independence, the entire complex was taken over by the Department of Defense. The state secretariat started functioning in the fort complex. The fort building is a three-storied one housing the offices of the chief minister and other ministers, the chief secretary, home ministry, treasury, etc. To accommodate the remaining offices, the then ruling DMK government planned to build a 10-storied building adjacent to the fort building. The Writers' Buildings or Mahakaran, often shortened to just Writers, was the official secretariat building of the Government of West Bengal, state government of West Bengal in Kolkata, India. The 150-metre long building covers the entire northern stretch of the Lal Dighi, Lal Dighi or Red Lake at the centre of historic B.B.D. Bagh, long considered as the administrative and business hub of the city. As a heritage building, it remains at a central place in Bengal's politics as a witness to Bengal's transformation and Indian independence movement. Sultan Ibrahim Building
The Sultan Ibrahim Building (; Jawi: باڠونن سلطان إبراهيم) is a former state secretariat building of Johor. It is located at Bukit Timbalan in Johor Bahru. The building was constructed between 1936 and 1939 and was completed in 1940 as the British colonial government attempted to streamline the state's administration. It was officially opened by the late Sultan Ibrahim of Johor. It was also the tallest building in Malaya during pre-independence era. In Johor Bahru itself, it stood unchallenged as the tallest building in the town until the completion of the Merlin Tower in the 1970s. Perlis State Secretriat Building is Perlis's state secretariat building. It is situated on Jalan Hospital, Kangar. History The building was erected as government offices for the British authorities, and included various departments including: the British Adviser's Office, the Council Chamber, the Treasury, the Customs, the Land Office, the Education Office, the Sanitary Board, and the Health Office. The foundation stone was laid by the Raja of Perlis in 1937 and the building was completed in 1939. The cost of the building was $87,000 and was designed by a Mr. Boucher, architect, Boucher & Co., Penang. The building contractor was Lee Woon of Penang, supervised by D. Cheam of Kangar. Patna Secretariat, also known as Patna Sachivalaya or Old Secretariat, is the administrative headquarters of the state Government of Bihar in India. It is located in Bihar's capital city of Patna. This building is situated between two iconic buildings of the city, Raj Bhavan in the west and Patna High Court in the far east. Mantralaya, Mumbai
Mantralaya is the administrative headquarters of the Government of Maharashtra in the city of South Mumbai, Mumbai, India built in 1955. Mantralaya was earlier known as Sachivalaya. (Sachiv- Secretary, Alaya- House, meaning House of Secretaries, called Secretariat). The headquarters of most State Governments in India are called Secretariats. However, since Ministers (Mantri in Marathi) also sit in the same building and to underline the fact that Ministers are powerful in a democracy, the name was changed to Mantralaya in the early eighties. Secretariat Building, Chandigarh
Secretariat Building is a Le Corbusier-designed building in Chandigarh completed in 1953 to house the offices of the Chief Secretary of the Indian state of East Punjab. Since the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966 split East Punjab into Haryana and Punjab, Chandigarh has been the capital of both states and the Secretariat Building is shared by their respective Chief Secretaries.
