Saʻole County
Saole County is a county in the Eastern District in American Samoa. The county consists of Aunu'u Island together with its foothold upon Tutuila Island, Ālōfau and Āmouli. History Saole County had traditionally been referred to in Samoan as "O lea Fagola" (The Long Bay). The historical high chief of the county is referred to as Faumuina. In 2000, there was a dispute between High Chief Faumuina and the Tautolo of Aunu`u regarding land ownership in Saole County. Tautolo leased water and waste disposal facilities on his land on Aunu`u Island to the American Samoa Power Authority. Faumuina objected to this, claiming he had ''pule'' (control) over the land. The High Court of American Samoa adjudged that Faumina did not have ''pule'' over Tautolo's land. Whilst the High Chief was owed respect for his title, it was held that outside of the Faumuina family's communal lands he did not have the ability to assert ''pule'' over another family's land. Khakas, also known as Xakas, is a Turkic language spoken by the Khakas, who mainly live in the southwestern Siberian Republic of Khakassia, in Russia. The Khakas number 61,000, of whom 29,000 speak the Khakas language. Most Khakas speakers are bilingual in Russian. Alofau, American Samoa
Alofau (Samoan: Ālōfau) is a village on the southeast coast of Tutuila Island, American Samoa. It is located at the eastern end of Faga'itua Bay, six miles east of Pago Pago, between Pagai and Amouli. It is home to Alofau Village Marine Protected Area. It is an agrarian and traditional village. It is also a poor village with residents with low literacy and high unemployment rates. As of the U.S. census in 2000, the per capita income was $4,357 and 67 percent of children were below the poverty line. 15.6 percent of residents were receiving public assistance. It is lauded as a kava place in the Manu'a Songs. Alofau is located in Sa'Ole County. Amouli, American Samoa
Āmouli is a village on the southeast coast of Tutuila Island, American Samoa at the narrowest point of the island. It is located to the west of 'Au'asi, immediately to the south of ʻAoa on the north coast. It was home to 920 residents at the 2010 U.S. Census, all of which were Pacific Islanders by race. It is located in Sa'Ole County. A larger shipwreck is located right beside the road in Āmouli. Locals say the vessel ran aground with a full load of fish, and when it overturned, it spilled its cargo within reach of villagers to gather it.
