Samantha Vang
Samantha Vang (born 1993/1994) is an American politician serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2019. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), Vang represents District 38B in the northwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area, which includes parts of the cities of Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park in Hennepin County. Early life, education, and career Vang was born and raised in north Minneapolis. Her parents are Hmong refugees from Thailand. She graduated from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School and from Gustavus Adolphus College, with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and communications. Minnesota House of Representatives Vang was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2018, after the retirement of incumbent Debra Hilstrom, and has been reelected every two years since. Debra Hilstrom
Debra J. Hilstrom (born June 21, 1968) is an American politician and former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), she represented District 40B, which included portions of the city of Brooklyn Center in Hennepin County in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. She was a candidate in the 2014 Minnesota Secretary of State election. She ran for Minnesota Attorney General in 2018, but lost the August 14 primary to Congressman Keith Ellison. Killing Of Daunte Wright
On April 11, 2021, Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black American man, was fatally shot in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, by police officer Kimberly Potter during a traffic stop and attempted arrest for an outstanding Arrest warrant, warrant. After a brief struggle with officers, Potter shot Wright in the chest once at close range. Wright then drove off a short distance until his vehicle collided with another and hit a concrete barrier. An officer administered Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, CPR to Wright; paramedics were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Potter said she meant to use her service Taser, shouting "Taser! Taser! Taser!" just before mistakenly firing her service pistol instead.
