Saltend
Salt End or Saltend is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in an area known as Holderness. It is situated on the north bank of the Humber Estuary just outside the Hull eastern boundary on the A1033 road. It forms part of the civil parish of Preston. Salt End is dominated by a chemical park owned by PX group, and a gas-fired power station owned by Triton Power. Chemicals produced at Salt End include acetic acid, acetic anhydride, ammonia, bio-butanol, bio-ethanol, ethyl acetate (ETAC) and ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) with animal feed also being produced on site. Industry History The site was opened in May 1914 when the North Eastern Railway Company built jetties connected to its railway system east of King George Dock. Holderness
Holderness is an area of the East Riding of Yorkshire, on the north-east coast of England. An area of rich agricultural land, Holderness was marshland until it was drained in the Middle Ages. Topographically, Holderness has more in common with the Netherlands than with other parts of Yorkshire. To the north and west are the Yorkshire Wolds. Holderness generally refers to the area between the River Hull and the North Sea. The Prime Meridian passes through Holderness just to the east of Patrington and through Tunstall to the north. Between 1974 and 1996, Holderness lay within the Borough of Holderness in Humberside. It gave its name to a wapentake until the 19th century, when its functions were replaced by other local government bodies, particularly after the Local Government Act 1888. Preston is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in an area known as Holderness. It is situated approximately east of Hull city centre it lies just north of the A1033 road on the crossroads between the B1240 and B1362 roads. The civil parish is formed by the village of Preston and the hamlet of Salt End. According to the 2011 UK census, Preston parish had a population of 3,258, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 3,100. The parish church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building.
