Safeword (sports)
A safeword, as used in sports, is a code word used by a player to avoid impending injury. In certain contact sports, such as rugby and professional wrestling, when a player feels an opposing player's actions will cause the player serious injury, the player may utter a safeword to tell the opponent to stop the actions. Professional rugby union footballers recognize the safeword "neck". A player may say "neck" during a scrum due to fear of a possible neck injury. Players on both teams will recognize this and immediately release any downward pressure. A more common example is "matte" (pronounced "mah-teh", meaning "Wait!") in most Japanese martial arts, including judo, which indicates surrender, usually due to an arm lock or a choke. ''Safeword'' is a British television comedy panel game show that aired on ITV2 from 23 July 2015 to 7 July 2016 and is hosted by Rick Edwards. Gameplay The show begins with the teams conjuring up a safeword; to aid them, they are shown two particularly humiliating photos from their life with a succinct caption selected from the "safe word generator". A safeword is then picked by the team. The first round, Hacked, involves the social media accounts of the guests being handed over to the opposing teams. "Safeword" is a song by the American singer Halsey. She wrote it along with its producers, Austin Corona and Wyatt Bernard. Columbia Records released it as a single on February 27, 2025, as Halsey's first release since her previous studio album ''The Great Impersonator'' (2024). It is a punk rock and pop-punk track with lyrics about BDSM.
