Rugby In Cardiff
Rugby is played in Cardiff in both rugby league and rugby union forms. Cardiff RFC and the Arms Park Between 2003 and 2009 there were two rugby union teams based at Cardiff Arms Park. The Cardiff Blues represented the region in the Celtic League and Heineken Cup, whereas Cardiff RFC represented the city in the Welsh Premier Division. From the start of the 2009–10 season, the Cardiff Blues relocated to the Cardiff City Stadium in the Leckwith area of the city. In May 2012 the Blues relocated back to the Arms Park. Cardiff Blues were renamed to "Cardiff Rugby" for the 2021-22 season. Rugby Union Clubs in Cardiff Cardiff has around 23 clubs playing in the WRU national league system. Cardiff Saracens Rugby Football Club was formed in 1966 when two of rugby clubs in Cardiff, Wales amalgamated.Cardiff Sarries are on the up South Wales Echo, 25 November 2008 The former clubs were Roath Park RFC (est. 1889) and Spillers RFC (est. circa 1920). Cathays ( ; Welsh: officially ''Cathays'' but also , 'the constant meadow') is a district and community in the centre of Cardiff, capital of Wales. It is an old suburb of Cardiff established in 1875. Llanrumney ( cy, Llanrhymni) is a suburb, community and electoral ward in east Cardiff, Wales. Llanrumney was in Monmouthshire until it was incorporated into Cardiff in 1938. History The land where modern Llanrumney stands was left to Keynsham Abbey by the Lord of Glamorgan after the Norman Conquest. According to legend, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the final prince of an independent Wales, was interred in a stone coffin by the monks in 1282, on land where Llanrumney Hall would be built centuries later. After Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries in the sixteenth century, the land passed to the Kemeys family. Whitchurch Rugby Club is an amateur rugby union club in Whitchurch, Shropshire. The club was formed in 1936 and currently competes in the Regional 2 West Midlands, since their promotion as champions of Midlands 2 West (North) at the end of the 2017–18 season. Until the early 1970s, the club relied mainly on the facilities of the local Grammar School until the move to Edgeley Park where they now reside. Canton Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the district of Canton, in Cardiff, South Wales. The club plays their home games at Lawrenny Avenue, located off Leckwith Road, Cardiff.
