Leicester Royal Infirmary
The Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) is a National Health Service hospital in Leicester, England. It is located to the south-west of the city centre. It has an accident and emergency department and is managed by of the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. History The hospital was founded by Reverend William Watts as the Leicester Infirmary with 40 beds in 1771. Patients were forced to pay a deposit when they went in; if they went home, the money was repaid; if they died their deposit would be spent on burying them. When first opened, there was no running water, but it did have its own brewery, beer from which was used to treat the patients. By 1808, the infirmary had expanded by 20 beds, to a total of 60 beds. A fever house opened at the infirmary in 1820 and nurses were first trained there in 1870. St Luke's Chapel, which benefited from extensive stained glass windows and memorials, was built in 1887. Devonshire Royal Hospital
The Devonshire Royal Hospital was established as the Devonshire Hospital in 1859 in Buxton, Derbyshire by the Buxton Bath Charity for the treatment of the poor. The hospital was built in the converted stable block of The Crescent. The building is now known as the Devonshire Dome and it is the site of the Buxton Campus of the University of Derby. Buxton Bath Charity The Buxton Bath Charity was founded in 1779 to pay for poor people to have access to the healing waters of Buxton, for the treatment of rheumatism, gout and various other conditions. All visitors to Buxton's hotels and lodging houses were expected to contribute one shilling to the charity and sign the subscription book. In 1822 there were nearly 800 patients admitted through the charity, which paid for board and lodging, medicines and water treatments for up to five weeks. By the 1850s the numbers exceeded 1000. Chesterfield Royal Hospital is an acute general hospital in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. It is managed by the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital has its origins in a dispensary established in a small house in St. Mary's Gate in 1854. The foundation stone for a new purpose-built facility was laid by the Marquis of Hartington on the site of Durrant Hall in 1859. The Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) (french: Hôpital Royal Victoria), colloquially known as the "Royal Vic" or "The Vic", is a hospital in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It forms the biggest base hospital of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), which is affiliated with McGill University. Royal University Hospital, often abbreviated RUH, is one of four hospitals in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It is located on the University of Saskatchewan campus. RUH is a teaching hospital and closely tied to the College of Medicine within the university. It was opened on May 14, 1955 by Saskatchewan premier Tommy C. Douglas. The seven-storey, seven wing structure took eight years to construct and equip, costing the people of Saskatchewan over $13,000,000. Over 16,000 tons of native limestone, quarried five miles north of campus, were used to face the half mile perimeter of the building. Royal Jubilee Hospital is a 500-bed general hospital in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada located about east of the city centre, in the Jubilee neighbourhood (itself named after the hospital). Overview Its name commemorates the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. Founded in 1890, Royal Jubilee was Victoria's main hospital until 1983, when an expanded Victoria General Hospital re-opened in the suburban municipality of View Royal. Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) is the oldest hospital in British Columbia and one of the busiest in the Fraser Health Authority. It is located in New Westminster overlooking the Fraser River and is the only hospital in the Lower Mainland that is immediately adjacent to a Skytrain station ( Sapperton). Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is a 450-bed adult and teaching hospital located on the northeastern edge of the central business district of Perth, Western Australia. History The hospital traces its history back to the first colonial hospital, which was established in a tent on Garden Island, just off the coast of Western Australia, in 1829.
