Louis Frederick Roslyn
Louis Frederick Roslyn (born Roselieb; 13 July 1878 – 1940), also known as Louis Fritz Roselieb, was a British sculptor noted for his World War I war memorials, portrait sculptures and bronze statuettes. Before beginning his career, he studied at Westminster City & Guilds College and the Royal Academy Schools. He enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in 1915, but for medical or other reasons was put on the reserve until 1917 when he served at the School of Military Aeronautics and subsequently made Lieutenant. During his military service that he changed his name to Roslyn. Biography Louis Frederick Roselieb, later Roslyn, was born on 13 July 1878 in Lambeth, London. His father was George Louis Roselieb, a German sculptor who came to England from Germany to work. Louis Roselieb attended Westminster City & Guilds College before entering the Royal Academy Schools, where in 1905 he was won a two year Landseer Scholarship for sculpture. Roslin, Midlothian
Roslin (formerly spelt Rosslyn or Roslyn; Scottish Gaelic: Riasg Linne) is a village in Midlothian, Scotland, 11 kilometres (7 mi) to the south of the capital city Edinburgh. It stands on high ground, near the northwest bank of the river North Esk. The name The name Roslin (recorded in 1138 as ''Roskelyn'') appears to derive from Scottish Gaelic. The second element is clearly ''linne'' usually meaning a pond or a lake, but here probably means a waterfall and refers to the nearby Linn of Roslin. The first element is more obscure, but may derive from ''riasg'' meaning a peat moor. The theory that it is a corruption of '' Roseline'', a supposed medieval meridian passing through Paris and Rosslyn Chapel, is fanciful. Roslin is believed to be the source of the name for the Village of Roslyn, on Long Island, in the U.S. State of New York; its location reminded officials of the hills in Roslin. The Roslyn Overbridge (also known as Roslyn Bridge or Highgate Bridge) is a landmark in the New Zealand city of Dunedin. Located northwest of the city's centre ( The Octagon), it allows for the passage of the arterial Upper Stuart Street under Highgate, the main suburban road which runs along the ridge of hills which surrounds the city centre. Roslyn Air National Guard Station (ADC ID: P-3) is a closed United States Air Force station. It was located in East Hills, New York, on Long Island. It was originally part of Clarence MacKay's Harbor Hill estate. It was closed in 2000. History World War II During 1942, the site was leased by the United States Army from Clarence Mackay for a headquarters station, initially for the I Interceptor Command, then the unit being re-designated to I Fighter Command, a component of First Air Force. The leased site was designated as "Subpost #3, Mitchel Army Airfield". The 164th Army Air Forces Base Unit (Fighter Control) (164th AAFBU) was assigned to the station on 10 April 1944. The unit assumed the duties of the inactivated New York Fighter Wing. The command established an integrated command and control facility dedicated solely to air defense. Roslyn Railway Station, New South Wales
Roslyn was a railway station on the Crookwell railway line, New South Wales, Australia. The station opened in 1902 with the opening of the line, and consisted of a 100 ft platform on the ''down'' side of the line with a loop siding on the ''up'' side. Cattle loading facilities and goods sheds were also provided. It was named after the estate of a local resident Dr Mitchell. In 1925, the station became the location of the branch line to Taralga, with the new branch extending off the loop line.. Roslyn is a station on the Long Island Rail Road's Oyster Bay Branch. It is located at Lincoln Avenue and Railroad Avenue, west of Roslyn Road in Roslyn Heights, New York. History Roslyn station opened on January 23, 1865 by the Glen Cove Branch Rail Road, a Long Island Rail Road subsidiary. In 1882, the LIRR attempted to extend the former Flushing and North Side Railroad main line between the Great Neck and Roslyn stations. This proposal dates back to an F&NS subsidiary, called the "Roslyn and Huntington Railroad", ultimately failed, and that line was instead extended to Port Washington in 1898. In the meantime, Roslyn station was moved in 1885, in order to accommodate a new freight station, and the station was rebuilt between June and July 1887. In the early 20th century, the New York & North Shore Traction Company's Port Washington Line stopped at and served the station; the n23 bus follows much this former trolley line's route. Roslyn station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station in Roslyn, Pennsylvania. Located at the intersection of Easton and Susquehanna Roads, it serves the Warminster Line. The original station was built by the Reading Railroad. The building was demolished in 1980 in favor of a modern facility. The station has a parking lot with 61 spaces.
