Rosa 'Chrysler Imperial'
''Rosa'' 'Chrysler Imperial' is a strongly fragrant, dark red hybrid tea rose, hybrid tea garden rose, rose cultivar. This variety was bred and publicly debuted by Dr. Walter E. Lammerts of Descanso Gardens, La Cañada Flintridge, California, US in 1952. Its stock parents Rosa 'Charlotte Armstrong', 'Charlotte Armstrong' (cerise pink) and Rosa 'Mirandy', 'Mirandy' (dark oxblood red) are both 'All American Rose Selections'-roses (awarded in 1940 and 1945). The elegantly tapered buds open into high-centered blossoms with a diameter of about and can have up to 45–50 petals (which is a high number for a hybrid tea rose) with a rich, deep, velvety red color. The cultivar flushes in a chronological blooming pattern throughout its local season, starting in late spring until fall. ''Rosa'' 'Charlotte Armstrong' is a pink Hybrid tea rose cultivar developed by Dr. Walter Lammerts and introduced in the U.S. by Armstrong Roses in 1940. The rose won the All-America Rose Selections Award (AARS) and the Portland Gold Award, Portland Gold Medal in 1941. Description 'Charlotte Armstrong' is a vigorous, upright hybrid tea rose, in height with a spread. Blooms are large, with an average diameter of , and a full bloom form (26–40 petals). Long, pointed red buds open to medium-pink flowers with darker pink backs. The flowers have long, durable petals and a strong, sweet, citrus fragrance. Flowers are primarily carried singly on long stems. 'Charlotte Armstrong' blooms in flushes throughout the growing season. It is very disease resistant. The All-America Rose Selections (AARS) is an award that was given annually, from 1940 to 2013, by the American rose industry to an outstanding new rose variety. The AARS selection was regarded as the most prestigious rose prize in the United States for 73 years. AARS was discontinued after 2013, and was replaced in 2016 by the new American Garden Rose Selections (AGRS) program. History In 1938, W.
