Latin Rite
Latin liturgical rites, or Western liturgical rites, are Catholic rites of public worship employed by the Latin Church, the largest particular church '' sui iuris'' of the Catholic Church, that originated in Europe where the Latin language once dominated. Its language is now known as Ecclesiastical Latin. The most used rite is the Roman Rite. The Latin rites were for many centuries no less numerous than the liturgical rites of the Eastern autonomous particular churches. Their number is now much reduced. In the aftermath of the Council of Trent, in 1568 and 1570 Pope Pius V suppressed the breviaries and missals that could not be shown to have an antiquity of at least two centuries (see Tridentine Mass and Roman Missal). Alfonso López Trujillo
Alfonso López Trujillo (8 November 1935 – 19 April 2008) was a Colombian Cardinal Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church and president of the Pontifical Council for the Family. Biography Youth Born in Villahermosa, Tolima, López Trujillo moved to Bogotá as a young boy and attended the National University of Colombia before he entered the seminary in order to become a priest. Trujillo completed his studies in Rome, earning a doctorate in philosophy from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) and completing studies in sociology, anthropology and philosophy. Ordination He was ordained as a priest on 13 November 1960 and, after studying in Rome for an additional two years, returned to Bogotá where he taught philosophy at the local seminary for four years. Fabio Betancur Tirado (October 30, 1938 – November 20, 2011) was a Colombian ecclesiastic of the Catholic Church. He served as auxiliary bishop of Medellín, later became the first bishop of the diocese of La Dorada-Guaduas and later was archbishop of the archdiocese of Manizales, of which, once retired, he served as archbishop emeritus. Octavio Betancourt Arango (January 4, 1928 – June 18, 2017) was a Colombian Catholic prelate. He served as an auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Medellín from November 23, 1970, until November 10, 1975, and a bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Garzón from November 10, 1975, until April 26, 1977. Mosé Higuera (20 December 1842 – 25 September 1915) was a Colombian prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as an auxiliary bishop of two dioceses, first for the Archdiocese of Bogotá from 1876 to 1884, and next for the Archdiocese of Medellín from 1884 until his death.
