Rolling Stock Of The Croatian Railways
This is a list of past and present rolling stock owned and operated by Croatian Railways, consisting of diesel locomotives, electric locomotives, diesel multiple units, electric multiple units and railroad cars. When the company began operation in 1991, it was with a collection of equipment inherited from „ŽTP Zagreb“ – a Croatian division of Yugoslav Railways. Much of this equipment was later refurbished/modernized and remains in use today. Over the years, Croatian Railways has supplemented this initial fleet with new orders and with new acquisitions of secondhand equipment from other operators. The term rolling stock in the rail transport industry refers to railway vehicles, including both powered and unpowered vehicles: for example, locomotives, freight and passenger cars (or coaches), and non-revenue cars. Passenger vehicles can be un-powered, or self-propelled, single or multiple units. A connected series of railway vehicles is a train (this term applied to a locomotive is a common misnomer). Vectron (locomotive)
The Vectron is a locomotive series made by Siemens Mobility, introduced at the 2010 InnoTrans trade fair in four prototype versions: diesel, multi-system, and both AC and DC electric power. The diesel version has been replaced in 2018 by a dual mode locomotive which is powered by electricity on electrified sections of the track and can be switched to diesel mode on non-electrified sections. The Vectron series is reconfigurable and modular, with a Bo'Bo' wheel arrangement, and is intended as the successor to the EuroSprinter family of locomotives. HŽ Series 1142
1142 series is the fastest electrical locomotive on Croatian Railways ( hr, hrvatske željeznice, HŽ). History They were manufactured by the Končar factory (named after Rade Končar). Originally, they were a Yugoslav development (class 442), meant to be used in 80s as the fastest electrical powered locomotive. They remain the fastest Croatian locomotives today. At that time, as higher speeds became more and more important, former Yugoslav Railways ( hr, Jugoslavenske Željeznice) needed a locomotive, which could cope with the 160 km/h speed reachable on some of the mainlines. Therefore, this series was produced. It was planned that some of this units would be delivered throughout the then still existing SFRY.
